Further cleanout of surplus vintage cars and parts: ANOTHER BARN FIND. This is a no reserve auction and the MGB will be sold regardless of price, on or off auction.     This particular auction is for an authentic original matching numbers 1967 MGB Roadster as shown. 1967 MGB's were some of the finest looking MGB's before they started meddling with them. It is an unrestored original survivor that has had only one repaint, interior panels and carpeting. The odometer shows 69276 miles. I believe it is correct but cannot guarantee it's accuracy. There are over 50 detailed photos. As of this writing Hagertys classic car values values the 1967 MGB at $4,700 low and $27,600 high. Average of $11884. Most of my cars were stored 25 to 35 years ago. They were all driven running and driving into storage and parked. Then the engine cylinders were filled with a rotary piston aircraft preservation lubricant and the sheet metal parts and chrome were sprayed with Cosmoline, a dark sticky preservative normally used to preserve weapons such as rifles used in the armed forces.

I get tired of seeing "restored" or junk, modified, restorod, unoriginal or rusty cars for sale. I spent 40 years collecting the best original unrestored cars I could find, putting them in storage preserving them for enjoyment by some future owner. In the meantime I have had tremendous enjoyment just looking at and touching the cars (only car guys won't think this is bizarre). Nowadays it is hard for the do it yourselfer to find an original car worthy and inexpensive enough to restore and have something that is a solid original when their job is finished. A lot of the vintage cars have been given a one week "restoration" hiding many sins and covering up the interesting historic indicators of time. Most original survivors have disappeared. A lot of the leftovers are either glossed over "restored" cars or rusty beaters. I like to see the cars in their untouched condition. An untouched original, even if it has problems, gives you an accurate assessment of it's overall condition and what kind of work needs to be done.

I will answer all email questions. Following is a detailed description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

It is a South Carolina car that was purchased new from a gentleman who lived on Hilton Head  Island, a wealthy oceanside community in South Carolina. It was sold to a gentleman in Georgia and was last driven and registered in Georgia in 1982 and put in storage at that time, whereupon I purchased the car. Early on it had a pampered garaged life and was well taken care of and maintined regularly. Now it is 50 years old and needs help in some areas. It does start, run and drive. The interior is decent and useable. A driver that can be used as it stands or driven while some restoration or improvements or upgrades are being done at the owners convenience. A very straight, attractive, good running car with plenty of eye appeal as viewed from any angle.

ENGINE:

The original 1800CC engine starts easily and runs extremely well. No smoke, no noises, has good oil pressure. Original good dual SU carburetors that are not worn or frozen and function very well. Valve train looks nice and clean and solid. Ol is clean. Engine is very strong, healthy and responsive. Stimulating raspy exhaust note, even with a bad rear muffler. Engine number is 18GBUH52551.

TRANSMISSION/Clutch:

Original MGB 4 speed transmission, non overdrive. Shifts well, exactly like these transmissions normally shift and function. Clutch engages well, no slippage or shuddering.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT:

Nice and solid and straight. No rust, just minor surface rust in isolated spots. Radiator is original and in good condition with no leaks. The electrical system is one 12 volt negative ground battery. The starter is a new replacement gear reduction model. The generator and voltage regulator have been replaced with a Race Proven NSD alternator/internal voltage regulator system. Has a new modern electric fuel pump, factory oil cooler, dual horns. Looks like most if not all of the other original equipment is still intact - wiper motor, horns, voltage regulator, air cleaners, etc.

  TRUNK COMPARTMENT:

Very solid with some surface and scale rust as shown. Spare wheel/tire are missing. Has the original jack.

EXTERIOR SHEET METAL BODY PANELS:

It has some sheet metal rust but nothing that can't be fixed. The frame is in good condition with only moderate scale rust. There is rust/bubbling in the extreme lower areas of the fenders and rockers. The right side inner rocker is rusted through - a brand new replacement Moss Heritage inner rocker is included. The left side inner rocker is still good. The doors are pretty good - only a couple of small rust holes on the very bottom as shown and they open and shut solidly with no sagging. The aluminum hood/bonnet is nice but the inside hinge mounts are bent a bit.

EXTERIOR BODY PARTS:

The original bumpers are in quite good, straight, undamaged condition. The chrome is the old worn original, looks nice from a short distance and good for a driver or replate for show. Grille and headlight assemblys are very good. Tail light assemblys are good. The original top frame is excellent and undamaged and has the original factory grey paint which should be refreshed. There is no soft top. All external body rubber gaskets and seals are old and original and will need replacing.

PAINT:

It was repainted once in green many years ago over the original factory British racing green paint. It is presentable with some scratches and off color touch up. It is shiny and good looking from 20 feet for a driver but will need repaint for anything beyond that.

   GLASS:

The side windows and the windshield are good with no damage. Both side windows are good and undamaged and roll up and down easily.

CHASSIS:

The frame is in good undamaged and unrotted condition having only moderate scale rust. The floors and the right side inner sill are completely rusted through. Brand new Moss Heritage full replacement floors and inner sill are included and will go with the car. Photos show the car with the original rusted floors and also with the Moss floors laid in place. The new floors are not attached, they are simply resting in place. Jacking points are intact. Body number is 09526.

  INTERIOR/Upholstery:

The carpeting is decent and useable and can be used as is for a driver. The seats are also decent. They are obviously not bolted to the floors and will need new seat mounting channels.

DASH AREA:

A very presentable steel dash area with original gauges. Working: Speedometer, fuel gauge, all lights, turn signals, windshield wipers, Replacement under dash water temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, push button ignition starter, carburetor choke, bonnet release handle. Not working: Tachometer, original radio, original water temp gauge. Has a nice period aftermarket aluminum and wood steering wheel. Can't open glovebox - no key. Original rear view mirror is good but needs a glass.

   AIR CONDITIONING:

None. Aftermarket air conditioners can be installed if need be - the new units are excellent, compact and very efficient.

TIRES & WHEELS:

All wire wheels are original to the car. The tires are pretty decent but are age checked and it would be adviseable to replace them. They have good tread and are 185 65 R14 86H Roadpros. Spare tire and wheel are missing.

EXHAUST:

The exhaust is good and useable with the exception of the rear muffler - It needs replacing. Exhaust note is healthy and raspy - nice sportscar sound.

SUSPENSION AND BRAKES:

All original suspension and braking mechanisms are intact. Nothing missing. Shocks are intact. The brakes work. Emergency brake assembly is intact. It may work or may not. I did not pull on it for fear it might lock up. Been there, done that.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Car starts, runs and drives, so no problem with transport or shuttling.

PAPERWORK:

There is no title. An old South Carolina State inspection certificate and bill of sale go with the car. There is no title. South Carolina or Georgia never issued titles. Most States will issue a title upon having the local police inspect the VIN on the car. Check your local regulations - they vary greatly. Most States do not require a title in order to register and license a classic car.

FACTORY ID PLATE:

The Vehicle identification ID plates are intact and correct. The vehicle serial number is GHN3L/99123. Body number is 09526.

REVIEW:

This is a 47 year old sports car and should be looked at with this in mind. Most everything on the car is 47 years old but still, it is an attractive classic roadster that can be finished in many ways or driven as it stands. It can be used as a driver while upgrading areas on the car or can be rebooted into a very fine classic in a relatively short time.

INSPECTION OF CAR:

As always, it is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is highly recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. If you elect not to do this you will have one of three outcomes after purchasing the car. #1. The car will be exactly as you thought it would be from the auction description and photos and you will be happy. #2. The car will be less than you thought it would be and you will be unhappy. #3. The car will be more than you thought it would be and you will be more than happy. And I will be the same in each case. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have purchased and sold roughly 25 autos through ebay over the past 15 years and also many more over the telephone and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers but I do my due diligence and suggest you do the same. I describe things as honestly as humanly possible.

SHIPPING:

I have shipped many cars to all parts of the world over the years and can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange transport. The car is in a secure place at my home. You  can collect the car at my home. I can assist with loading. The car can stay here for up to 30 days from the close of the auction.

PAYMENT & BIDDING:

Contact me if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid will be cancelled. A $500 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days via priority or overnight mail with a bank cashiers check or cash. Payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. IN ADVANCE, BEFORE YOU COLLECT THE CAR - This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Full payment is due BEFORE the car is collected. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it - if that is your intention, please do not bid on the car. If you cannot trust me, my reputation, the description and the extensive photos then it is your responsibility to inspect the car yourself or have a third party inspect it for you. When the auction is over, it is your car and payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. In my experience most of the cars sold on ebay are a wholesale bargain. Mine certainly have been. No Paypal for the balance.
