In 2002, it had been over seven years since a vehicle in the Porsche line up had featured a V-8 as the power plant. The last of which was the 1995 Porsche 928 that left the factory with a 5.4L V8. Porsche made the decision that with the creation of their new SUV platform they would reintroduce the V8 in their lineup. Porsche is a brand name that is synonymous with luxury and performance, so the new SUV platform would have to be capable, powerful, and luxurious to compete with the already crowded SUV market.

Porsche's venture into the SUV market wasn't for naught, as the Cayenne quickly received great reviews and established a following of people who swore by the Cayenne platform. This 2008 Cayenne is a supreme example as to why so many choose the Cayenne over Porsche's competitors. At only 5 years old, this Cayenne GTS shows like it is brand new, features over 400 horsepower, and a stunning luxurious interior.

It starts with the body that is covered in an aggressive coat of Carmon Red Metallic and features a head-turning look that is lost on most SUV's of today. At the front of the body you have a massive grille located just below the famous Porsche emblem on the center of the nose. The emblem is flanked on both sides by large headlights that seamlessly blend into the front fenders. As you make your way down the body you'll notice a large luggage rack on the roof, and black trim that accents the dark red paint. At the back of the SUV you'll notice a modest rear spoiler above the back door that opens automatically with a touch of the handle. Below the rear glass is the Cayenne GTS badging, and the quad chrome exhaust tips that finish off the look.

Lift the hood on this Porsche SUV and you'll reveal the 4.8L direct injected V8 that pumps out a potent 405 horsepower. The engine bay, like the rest of the car, is extremely clean and makes use of all the available space. The 4.8L V8 features an aluminum block, aluminum heads, and is combined with a 6-speed Porsche 'Tiptronic' automatic transmission. The combination is good for a 0-60 time in 6 seconds flat, and if you could control yourself behind the wheel the GTS you can achieve nearly 20mpg. 400 horsepower and 20mpg, it doesn't get much better than that!

Underneath the GTS is just as impressive as the rest of the vehicle. For the suspension you'll find an adjustable air ride independent front and rear suspension that offers three different suspension modes comfort, normal, and sport. If those three aren't enough the driver can also adjust the air suspension manually from the cockpit. The all-wheel drive vehicle is slowed by 4-wheel power disc brakes with 4-wheel ABS. The entire vehicle rides on 5-spoke Cayenne Sport Alloy rims that have been wrapped in Continental CrossContact rubber.

The Cayenne GTS was advertised as being a luxury SUV and when you take a seat in the driver's seat you really get a first-hand view of all the luxuries available to you. The Sand Beige leather interior is stunning and one of the most comfortable manufacturer stock seats we have ever sat in. Both of the front seats are 8-way power adjustable that includes a memory function to remember the ideal settings. In front of the driver is a leather steering wheel that has cruise and radio controls on the wheel. Beyond the wheel is a standard instrument cluster with a digital readout in the center. Between the two drivers is a digital interface that contains the radio controls, dual climate controls, phone controls, and navigation controls. Just below that is the shifter for the six-speed automatic and the controls for the air-ride independent suspension. The Cayenne shows just over 58,000 miles but if the interior is any indication it has lived a very pampered life. Above the driver is a nice sun roof, while behind the two front seats is the rear bench seat capable of housing 3 more passengers. Beyond the two rear seats is a spacious cargo area that features 19 square feet of space.
