CJ-8 81
1982 JEEP CJ 8
SCRAMBLER

Note on model year - I purchased this as a model year 1981. The registration came up as a 1982. I have another vehicle that is a 1982, and that vehicle has wind windows in the doors and holes for the cross chest seat belt in the top. This Jeep has neither the wind windows nor theseat belt holes. I am listing this CJ pursuant to the title info, but note the differences.

This Jeep has been one of my daily drivers on and off over the past ten years. The Jeep starts quickly. The engine is strong. With the combination of alloy rims, medium aggressive tread tires, the stiff rear springs and the new AGR steering box the Jeep handles very well both on the highway and on curving country roads.

Frame is basically solid. I have had several small 1/4 and 3/16 inch steel pieces welded to a few parts on the frame. I originally intended to do a frame off restoration, but never got around to it - So, I continued to use the vehicle as it is. It is a joy to drive.

There is some body rust - all repairable or easily replaceable. The front added bumper has rust through at spots. There is rust on the transverse bed support members. These need to be redone. The pieces are available. I have the missing door panel. It was removed to replace the window which was broken by vandals. The front windwhield was also broken. I left it as it it has been for the past three years. Jeep windshields are an easy fix, but I was planning to redo the entire window frame at the same time.

I have not spent time cleaning the engine and spiffing up the interior, The photos represent how the car looks - sort of at its worst. (The wires under the dash are for some driving lights, which I was redoing.)

There are small items, which may be of concern. The radio is not original and no longer works. The horn medalion was lost during a repair, the knob on the door crank was pulled off by an over zealous mechanic. I have it in the glove box. I am sure there is a bunch of small items, which do not concern me - but if there is something that is of special concern to you please ask, and I will do my best to anser the question.

In general, this Jeep will continue to be an excellent driver with some TLC and a relatively small amount of money, or is a great candidate for restoration. Many excellent newer parts, and a strong foundation.
