Needing to replace its popular 190 and 300SL models, Mercedes Benz introduced its new sports car at the 1963 at the Geneva Auto Show.  The W113 Chassis also called the 230 SL featured a 2.3 liter inline 6 cylinder fuel injected engine, which was good for 150 horsepower, and a 140 ft-lbs of torque.  Mercedes use of aluminum for the doors, trunk, and hood to save weight, and along with a wide track and shortened wheelbase made for a great handling sport car.

One of the most iconic features of the new Roadster was the addition of the “Pagoda” hard top, giving you the sense of driving a coupe, when installed on the car. A very well insulated cloth soft top made the 230 SL a very easy to live with everyday roadster. 

This particular 230 SL is a European spec, featuring the beautiful European headlights, and ZF 4-speed transmission.  Repainted over 25 years ago in its original color of white, over a black Mercedes Tex interior this 230 SL still looks sharp and has just enough patina to be able to enjoy as God intended.  There is a small dent on the underside of the passenger side rear bumper. Although there are no signs of significant accident, or rust repair the body is absolutely straight, and very presentable.  The paint is shiny throughout, and has held the test of time. There are a few imperfections on the body: A small rust spot is showing on the driver’s side rear wheel arch, and some dummy pushed a small part of the driver’s floor by placing a jack in the wrong section!

The interior is largely original, and still shows extremely well.  There are no cracks in the wood for the dash, and the seats, carpet, and trim are in fantastic condition.  The Black cloth soft top is virtually new, and shows no signs of wear, and the window is perfect without any scratches or scuffs.

This 230 starts very easily and is an absolute joy to drive and shift through the gears of the 4 speed manual transmission.

Included will be full sets of keys, service records for the last 25 years, clean title, Pagoda roof, Pagoda roof stand, and cover.
