- A Fantastic Example of the C3 Corvette
The C3 enjoyed the longest production run of all Corvettes from 1968 to 1982. Though Chevrolet kept the Sting Ray designation, the vehicle's exterior design represented a major renunciation from its predecessor. Styling cues were largely taken from the Larry Shinoda designed 1961 Mako Shark concept car. Both the small block and the big block were available. A number of changes were made to the vehicle until the end of production; the new 1970 Corvette was produced with four vertical side vents on each front fender, amber signal lights and square exhaust outlets. A four-speed manual transmission substituted the three-speed, and the 427 was replaced in favor of two new 454-cubic-inch big V8s.
Here is the big boy of 1970, the 454 cubic inch 390 horsepower LS5 Corvette Sports Coupe. Wearing Mulsanne Blue paint over Blue Vinyl upholstery, this numbers-matching big block comes very well equipped with Air Conditioning, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Anti-Theft System, Tilt-Tele Steering Column and Manual Transmission. The cowl hood and luggage rack complete the period styling, along with BF Goodrich Radial T/As mounted on Rally Wheels and removable T-Top roof.
The Corvette looks great and drives even better. The paint and chrome show well with no visible stress cracking in the body. The cabin remains in excellent unmodified shape, the upholstery is nice with all trim and original components preserved, including the factory chalk markings and tags. The car's undercarriage and engine bay reflect the same level of preservation and authenticity.
The 454ci motor performs as expected, and with 500 lbs. of torque this C3 gets off the line in a hurry. Among the last of the "classic" Corvettes, the LS5 was one of the most desired American sports cars of the time, especially outfitted in this example's particular options. We encourage a closer inspection of this iconic MuscleCar.
