The first Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line on March 9, 1964. On April 17, 1964, the Mustang was introduced to the public at the World’s Fair in New York. Before the day was over, Ford had secured 22,000 orders for the vehicle at dealerships across the country. As such, the Mustang was considered an instant hit with consumers.
MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this drop dead gorgeous, true “A” Code 1965 Ford Mustang GT Convertible from the dry states of California & Texas. This Mustang was built in San Jose, California and has a San Jose DSO as well – so this car has spent the majority of its life in the dry state of California before making its way to Texas. Bonus – this particular Mustang GT has an extremely rarely seen FUNCTIONING Rally Pac and clock! It’s almost impossible to find that these days!
The car has been properly identified as a true GT by various features and distinguishing marks found only on the GT. It has the GT fog lights, GT under-dash fog light harness, correct fog lamp switch, rear lights come on when fog lights are turned on, brake distribution block, clip on master cylinder cap, front disc brakes, disc brake pedal, GT stripe kit, five gauge instrument panel, dash trimmed for speedometer gauge, original amp gauge, reinforced floor panel under rear seats with holes for hangers, correct hangers, dual exhaust through rear panel, 13/16” oversized front sway bar and tubular reinforcing inside rear frame rails over hangers. This is the real deal, rarely seen actual 1965 Mustang GT Convertible!
The car you see here is gorgeous inside and out. Finished in the correct Dark Ivy Green Metallic (Code R) with white GT Rocker Panel Stripes, this car appears to have recently had a high quality paint job and is in great condition with a bright luster and only minor imperfections. Dark Ivy Green Metallic was only available for the 1965 model year. The chrome bumpers, chrome trim and chrome luggage rack are in excellent condition with a brilliant shine. The upgraded tan canvas convertible top and boot are in great shape showing no notable imperfections. Both the new top and boot were just installed by the previous owner at a considerable expense of over $2,000.
We have gone and decoded the VIN and Data Plate to find that this Body Code-76A Mustang 2-Door Convertible is mostly factory correct! It was built May 26th of 1965 in San Jose, California. The correct A-Code 289ci V8 4-Valve is under the hood and attached to a Trans 6-Code Dual Range Automatic Transmission. It has been finished in Paint Code-R Dark Ivy Green Metallic.
Inside the Mustang, you’ll see that the interior is in great shape. The tan Pony vinyl bucket seats are in great shape with no notable imperfections, as is the backseat. The carpet is tan and looks great with only minor wear on the driver’s side. The dash appears to be the original 1965 dashboard and is in good condition as well. The dash houses a set of original gauges. There is Hypo Rally Pac Instrumentation, tachometer and clock on either side of the steering wheel as well. As mentioned before, the Rally Pac IS functional, as is the clock. Finding a functional Rally Pac & clock is like finding a needle in a haystack … twice! Overall, this is one beautiful and exceptionally clean Mustang!
The previous owner also invested in a costly Florida Air Condition system with a Sanden compressor and Vintage Under Dash unit that will keep you cool on those hot summer nights.
Under the hood, this Mustang has the 289 cubic inch, 4 valve V8 with a brand new Holley 650cfm 4 barrel carburetor with electronic choke which improves overall performance tremendously. Pushing the ponies to the pavement is a C4 Dual Range automatic transmission, making this car a BLAST to drive! The car is factory equipped with power steering and front disc brakes. The wheels appear to be the original steel Mustang wheels and are wrapped in great P195/75R14 white stripe tires.
This is a gorgeous and iconic early Mustang and it would fit perfectly in any collection or as a summer driver! The VIN number is 5R08A226487 and the mileage shows 7,609. This car is being sold on a clean and clear Texas title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
