    Description

The Dodge D-500 which was named for the NASCAR requirement that 500 identical models must be produced in order to be raced. This performance model came with a 315 cubic inch, cast-iron Hemi V8 under the hood. Fed by a Carter four barrel carburetor, larger valves, mechanical lifters, reprofiled camshaft, and higher compression (9.25:1) it turned out 260 hp at 4400 RPM.   It also included a heavy duty suspension and other chassis upgrades from the New Yorker and Imperial lines, along with upgraded 12" brakes. Overall height was 1.5 inches lower than its Dodge Counterpart. 0-60 time was 9.5 seconds. Records show that the D-500 topped out at around 120 mph.  The 1956 D-500 set or broke a total of 306 speed and endurance records. The only external clues were discreet, crossed checkered flags and "500" lettering on the hood (left front) and trunk (right rear). .

Here's what Sports Car Illustrated had to say in August 1956. "It is designed from the ground up as a high performance road machine that can be used for commuting to work, for winning its class at the local Drag Strip, or for making a top showing in a tough rally or race."

The Golden Lancer was a special edition Royal Lancer that was available in California only. It came specially equipped with custom two-tone paint, unique Gold trim, special badging, exclusive interior accents including dash and upholstery and other unique features.  With production numbers for the D500 Golden Lancer  originally slated for 100, actual production was closer to 50.

This 1956 Dodge Coronet D500 Golden Lancer is painted in Sapphire White and Gold Gallant Saddle paint with patterned white/gray/black upholstery. It still retains all the original sheet metal with no rust or rust repair ever before undergoing a professional ground up restoration including paint, interior, chrome, and mechanics. The heartbeat is still the matching numbers 315 cubic inch Hemi producing 260 Horsepower mated to the optional PowerFlite automatic pushbutton transmission.

All electrical systems and accessory options have been meticulously restored and all mechanical systems have been precision tuned to spec.  The engine does not overheat (even in the hot Atlanta summers) and starts right up not being cold natured. The engine compartment is ready to score big at any Mopar show and the undercarriage is similarly detailed. The car cruises effortlessly at highway speeds.

With no shortage of chrome or flare this low mileage very rare 1956 Dodge D500 Golden Lancer makes a bold statement and would be a golden ticket for any local cruise, or show event.
