Mercedes Benz in every way but unique in almost all respects. These cars were a joint venture between MB and Porsche. They were hand built at the Porsche factory and transported back and forth several times during assembly between the two plants in Germany. One look at the wide-body fenders front and rear is the most visible discerning characteristic of the 500E. The 5.0 liter V8 provided by it's 500SL brother is a hidden benefit that boasts 322 horse power and a 0 to 60 time of just over five seconds. These cars were hailed by all who tested them and received glowing reviews in every publication that had the privilege of examining and driving one. I will not bore you here with technical data or statistics. You can research for yourself on the internet if so inclined. In short, these are incredible automobiles even by today's standards.

                  The exterior of the car is very nice. There has never been repaired accident damage or rust of any kind. She spent the first half of her life and 38,000 miles in Indiana with the original owner who used the car ONLY during good weather conditions. Never exposed to salted roads. The car is free of corrosion. There are several pictures documenting the undercarriage near the end of the photo lay-out.

           The body and paint are in impressive original condition. No dents or ugly scratches worth mentioning. The finish holds a nice shine and gloss. There are, however, numerous and plentiful tiny rock chips that occurred during normal driving. The factory color-matched touch up paint has been used to mask them but upon close inspection, they are certainly visible. Many close-up photos provided within my display. 

           All glass is excellent and crystal clear with the exception of one notable stone chip in the windshield shown in the next photo.

           I magnified this picture to better show the blemish in the windshield. This flaw is not in the line of sight and has remained unchanged. I'm not a penny pincher and a replacement screen is not expensive. This minor imperfection simply didn't bother me.

           Please note: The European headlamps with wiper-delete panels ($3000+) were a very costly upgrade that was performed when the car was near new. I have the original units.

           Reflections in the paint can play tricks on our eyes. For that reason, I felt compelled to clarify that the car is extremely straight with no waviness or wash-board effect as look down the sides. 

           As mentioned in the beginning of this write-up, I have the factory 16 inch 500E rims. This 17 inch AMG set was installed many years ago to enhance overall handling.

           Tires are new.

           The view from my front porch never looked better.

           As disclosed previously, there are numerous tiny rock chips on the very front areas of the car. Only visible under close scrutiny. We don't salt our roads here in Oregon but the Department of Transportation loves to spread sand and tiny gravel whenever there is a threat of ice or snow. If you look closely you can see my hand and even my wedding ring within the reflection. 

           Headlights, turn lenses and the iconic Benz grille are all excellent. Just reflections in the grille, not flaws.

           I did have the front bumper and body kit side panels painted.        

           The last notable flaw to mention is the fender edge on the drivers side rear wheel opening. A cable chain came loose and went un-noticed until little paint chips occurred. I magnified this photo to provide as much clarity as possible.

           The interior is outstanding.

           The wood inlay is showing light superficial cracking that you'd expect even a well maintained car. It is unavoidable. Impressive condition just the same. The interior really is gorgeous.

           Absolutely every switch, lever and knob operates as intended including the original radio. Even the climate control functions properly on both heating and air-conditioning.        

           Optional power rear window shade.

             All books and manuals are present.

           There are more service records in the file here at home.

           Extremely well maintained. The engine and transmission are performing superbly. Suspension and brakes are in proper working order. The cooling system is perfect. There are no fluid drips on my garage floor even after sitting un-touched for extended periods. As stated previously, I am aware of NO current service needs or repairs at this time.

           She always starts easily and has the incredible power she's always had. Simply a joy to drive.

           As smooth as glass while sitting at a red light. You have to look at the tachometer to be sure the engine is on. 

           Undersides are excellent. NO corrosion or rust of any kind.

           There is a scuff and slight indentation on the spare tire well.

           Spare tire and jacking components are mint.
