The German manufacturer decade after decade churns out quality luxury vehicles for the world to enjoy. MotoeXotica Classic Cars presents this absolutely gorgeous and stunning 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL custom roadster, simply one of the best custom cars to hit our showroom floor. The 1966 advertising campaign for the 230SL was “the most sensible dream car in the world.” This custom roadster truly represents a dream car as it resembles a classic Pagoda SL with today’s modern touches — notably a tried and true Chevrolet Corvette LS1 V8 engine and a bevy of custom features. This spectacular restomod started with a 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL — a rust-free California car that had no motor or transmission. The body of this car was stripped down for the restoration — the pallet for this work of art. The finished exterior is a 2013 Mercedes-Benz silver costing more than $950 per gallon and professionally painted. But the attention to detail didn’t stop with the exterior paint. The trunk and deck lids were redone and repainted a glossy black mirror finish, an extra step many restomods don’t take. This Pagoda sits on four Mercedes-Benz 16-inch wheels painted to match the body and wrapped in Falken tires measuring 205/65R16. This Mercedes also has a factory silver Pagoda hardtop available to go with the new, correct black cloth StayFast soft top. The undercarriage is solid and exemplifies what a great rust-free California car this is, and it is clean as a whistle. The interior showcases the craftsmanship and attention to deal taken for this custom roadster. Many components are custom and truly make this car one of a kind. The Nardi wooden steering wheel attaches to an Ididit tilt steering column, and the Lokar pedals bring the driving experience home. The two leather seats are BMW E46 luxury sports seats that are power and heated. The switches are conveniently and cleverly hidden in the ashtray as evidenced by the photos. A vintage air thermostat and Mini Gen II heat/cool/defrost look amazing in this interior and give a retro feel to this ultimate restomod. The original VDO gauges have been replaced by Classic Instrument gauges measuring RPM, volts, fuel, oil pressure, temperature and MPH. Under the hood, the Corvette LS1 V8 engine helps this roadster stand out from the crowd. This is an upgrade from the correct standard inline six-cylinder engines in late ‘60s 230SLs and gives the car a real kick in the pants with more than 300 HP! The 230SL was a 2.3 L engine, where as the LS1 is 5.7 L — more than twice the original displacement. The computer was sent to Street & Performance Inc. to be recalibrated. A 4L60-E GM automatic transmission was added and is mated with the Corvette engine. The original power steering is still intact. The brake pads, brake line and rotors are all new. The previous owner said all Mercedes-Benz parts were purchased from Bud’s Benz, Inc. in Georgia. With just one mile on the odometer since restoration, this is a remarkable and unique roadster worthy of the top spot in any collection. Don’t miss this opportunity for an incredible restomod on a highly desirable 230SL. Drive it down the street, and people will say, “That must have been a Mercedes-Benz!” … but with a twist! VIN is 11304212012853, and this custom roadster is being sold on a clear title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
