THIS 1999 VW PASSAT WAS LAST STARTED AND DRIVEN ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO.  IT HAD SEVERAL MECHANICAL ISSUES AND CODES AT THAT TIME AND HAS BEEN SITTING EVER SINCE.  THE BATTERY IS DEAD SO WE CAN'T READ THE CURRENT MILES.  THE MILES LISTED IN THE AUCTION ARE CLOSE BUT MAY BE A COUPLE HUNDRED OR A COUPLE THOUSAND MILES OFF.  IF YOU ARE A MECHANIC IT MAY BE WORTH YOUR WHILE TO BUY THE CAR AND FIX IT UP, BUT THIS CAR IS REALLY BETTER OFF AS A PARTS CAR.

THE TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP WERE REPLACED ABOUT A 1,000 MILES AGO.

MECHANICALLY, WE KNOW THIS PASSAT WILL NEED BALL JOINTS, MULTIPLE SUSPENSION BUSHINGS, AXLE BOOTS, GASKETS FOR THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION PAN, BRAKES AND ROTORS, DRIVER'S WINDOW REGULATOR, O2 SENSORS, AND SOME ENGINE WORK REGARDING THE MASS AIR FLOW UNIT, TURBO, AND EVAP SYSTEM.  WE HAVE NOT DIAGNOSED EVERY ISSUE WITH THIS CAR, BUT THE PROBLEMS WE DID FIND WERE DIAGNOSED OVER SIX MONTHS AGO SO THERE MAY BE MORE ISSUES NOW SINCE THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR SO LONG.

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE MANY PICS BELOW THE PAINT IS BAD, BUT THE BODY IS RUST FREE AND MOSTLY STRAIGHT.  THE BODY IS WORTH SALVAGING.  THE INTERIOR IS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH NICE SEATS, DASH, CENTER CONSOLE, HEADLINER, GLASS, ETC.  THE ONLY ISSUE INSIDE IS SOME LOOSE FABRIC ON THE DOOR PANELS CENTER TRIM.  OTHER THAN THAT, THE INTERIOR HAS MANY GOOD PARTS THAT CAN BE SALVAGED.  THE WHEELS ARE OK, BUT THE HUBCAPS ARE MOSTLY SCRATCHED AND/OR BROKEN.

IN A NUTSHELL, THIS PASSAT HAS MANY GOOD PARTS AND THE ENGINE INTERNALS ARE GOOD SO IT SHOULD RUN FINE WITH SOME WORK.  THE TRANSMISSION IS GOOD AS ARE MANY OTHER MECHANICAL PARTS.

THIS CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN BACK HOME IF YOU ARE THE WINNING BIDDER.  IT MUST BE TRANSPORTED.

THIS CAR WILL NOT PASS A VA STATE INSPECTION.
