 Description

1956 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL MARK II Exotic Classics is proud to present this historically significant 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II Coupe. In 1955, the Continental name was revived as a separate Ford division, with its sole model being the Continental Mark II. This car was a unique design with the highest quality control ever seen in the automobile industry. High-class luxury abounded in the new Continental, with very limited availability. Continentals for 1956 were some of the most expensive cars in the world. With a price of $10,000, it rivaled the cost of a RollsRoyce. But despite its huge price tag, Ford Motor Company is said to have lost money on each one sold. The Continental Mark II was sold for just two model years with a total production of 2,996. The Continental was found affordable by only the world's wealthiest individuals. Many celebrities drove them, including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, the Shah of Iran, Nelson Rockefeller and Henry Kissinger among others. As an aside; while on later models it was purely for decoration the Mark II did in fact carry the spare under the trunk lid's stamped-in tire cover. Our car, C56A1735, was manufactured in November 1955 and shipped to Bragg Motor Sales in Danbury, CT. It is a three-owner car and was subject to a body-off restoration by the third owner that was completed in 2001. The car was painted in the original Deep Bronze with Medium Beige leather seat biscuits and White leather seat bolsters. The engine was rebuilt and the car remains in excellent condition both cosmetically and mechanically. Luxury features include air conditioning, power steering, brakes, windows, antenna and seats. A number of subtle improvements were made in the interest of safety and driving pleasure. These include: electric windshield wiper conversion, halogen headlights, electric antenna, AM/FM radio conversion, and electronic ignition. This car was the ultimate in exclusive luxury. Post-Restoration, the car was shown in many LCOC and AACA events where it received numerous prestigious awards. Please see the list below for the award, location and affiliation. This Continental was a status symbol in its time and a car that you can drive or show with pride today. 2001 Best of Show - Munson/Williams/Proctor Art Inst - AACA Utica & Central NY2001 Primary First Place - Gaithersburg, MD - Lincoln Continental Owners Club2001 Best Primary Division MK II - Gaithersburg, MD - LCOC/FoMoCo Trophy2001 Junior/Second - Hershey, PA - AACA Fall Meet 2003 Senior First Place - Hickory, NC - Lincoln Continental Owners Club2003 First Place in Class - Rhinebeck, NY- Lincoln Continental Owners Club2004 First Place in Class - Hawley, PA - Lincoln Zephyr Owners Club2005 Senior First Place - Cleveland, Ohio - Lincoln Continental Owners Club2006 First Place in Class - Hickory Corners, MI. - CCA Contours2006 Senior First Place - Hickory Corners, MI - Lincoln Continental Owners Club2007 Primary First Place - Cherry Hill, NJ - Lincoln Continental Owners Club2007 Primary First Place - Philadelphia, PA - Lincoln Continental Owners Club2007 Best Primary Division MK II - Philadelphia, PA - LCOC/FoMoCo Trophy2009 First Place in Class - Latham, NY - Lincoln Zephyr Owners Club
