This little 1974 Volkswagen "THING" Convertible is a real find! I was out driving this BEAUTY today taking the pictures and I felt like I was driving a nearly new VW! We just purchased this car from the second owner who lives in Oregon and as you can clearly see in the pictures this was his pride and joy. They had it for over 15 years and pulled it behind their $200K Motorhome. It comes with the high end tow bar set-up and all the wiring and rear towing lights, this Thing is ready to tow. This car is not your average old VW Thing Convertible that is worn out with a new paint job. This Thing is a rust free body even at the battery tray, between body and fenders, see pictures, it was kept in his heated garage the whole time when it was not being towed. The previous owner rebuilt just about everything on this car in the last 15years. The entire interior is Original except the new rubber floor mats and the high back bucket seats, we have the Original front seats and they have new padding and new original style covering, the Original black convertible top is also in excellent condition. Also all of the original rubber weatherstripping and vinyl windows are in great shape and clear as is the rear window!! I believe it is a nice value at the price we have it listed at considering its great original condition! Cars like this were quite a novelty in their day to say the least but now, in this kind of shape ? What a find! The Thing enthusiast should be pleased to own this BEAUTY. I drove this BEAUTY as my every-day driver too and from the office and running errands as needed and I can assure you this car runs and drives well. It also does well on the freeway at highway speeds. If you can make it to Boise in the next ten days please come look at and drive this car for yourself you won't be disappointed.
It has a - STRONG - SMOOTH - 1600cc Air Cooled Volkswagen four cylinder motor in it that is running VERY WELL indeed. The previous owner had a VW specialty shop rebuild the motor and less than four thousand miles has been put on the car since. It also has a smooth four speed manual gearbox that also was rebuilt and functions VERY well. Sounds good too with the aftermarket Sport exhaust system. The Orange paint is EYE POPPING BEAUTIFUL with really little to no wear showing other than a few small chips and imperfections and is bright, shiny and looks STUNNING as you can clearly see in the picture. The Black vinyl interior is VERY NICE and looks BEAUTIFUL including VERY NICE Black Vinyl original that were just reconditioned with the original style black vinyl and new padding and currently installed high back front bucket seats, VERY NICE Original Black Vinyl rear seat, NICE Black rubber floor mats, NICE ORIGINAL steering wheel, VERY NICE ORIGINAL gauge cluster, black Vinyl sunvisors and original black dash pad. In my opinion you're not going to find a much nicer INTERIOR on a 39 year old car than the one in this car. This Thing Convertible is nicely equipped including power wipers, original gauge cluster, Original AM radio with the speaker mounted in box under the dash, Dual black exterior side view mirrors, factory back up lights, good heater and defroster, owner added an electric fan to help with cold morning defrosting that plugs into the lighter power, cup holders, factory seat belts, nice rubber weatherstripping, good glass and factory side windows. The CLEAN - SOLID - "front trunk" area is equipped with a full size spare tire, jack and lug wrench. This is a QUALITY car that drives very well and is nice and tight. Odometer reads 98.175 miles, but true miles are unknown as the odometer stopped working sometime last year, but this rig doesn't get driven alot. It is a really COOL little vehicle. Check out the VERY NICE custom 15 inch chrome wheels with chrome VW hubcaps wrapped in nearly new steel belted radial tires, boy does this combination look outstanding on this BEAUTY and really retains that clean stock look. The front and rear bumpers are nice! It is set up with tow bar and extra tow lights and hook-up and custom removable bike rack with tow lights and trailer hitch ball. This is a nice Classic collector VW Convertible and it has plenty of good looks to boot!
