HISTORY OF THIS VW BEETLE

We love all types of vehicles and have owned a large number of cars that include early VW cars from the 1950's to late model Volkswagen's and Karmann Ghia's. As is evidenced from our personal ownership of a number of modified examples along with various Meyers Manx dune buggies and other specialty cars, we appreciate a wide range of VW's from stock to customized / modified cars.

However, we have never had an example like this 1966 VW Beetle. The car began life like any other stock VW but has come a long way since it's professional and complete restoration and customization to a simply incredible "Beetle." The car recently spent 7~ years in a private collection of close to 200 cars including a wide range of Street Rods, Muscle Cars, Antiques and other collectible cars & memorabilia. It received proper care by a full time "Caretaker" of the collection who ensured that the cars were driven regularly, kept up mechanically and received the necessary maintenance and service. When the owner dramatically reduced the size of his massive collection, we were fortunate enough to be made aware of this car and jumped on the opportunity to own it.

We have been told that the "66 VW had once been owned by a key employee of the infamous Boyd Coddington (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boyd_Coddington). Boyd was recognized as one of the premier automobile builders / designers and, needless to say, his employees were held to very strict / high standards. This VW, while admittedly not a "typical" build for their organization would certainly have held up to Boyd's critical eye. He appreciated the highest quality product, innovation and a unique design..this car meets all of those criteria.

While the following categories describe the cars condition, we must emphasize that this is not a typical "Hot Rod" Volkswagen that was built in a garage and remains unfinished or "needy." This is a no excuses, totally and professionally built car with a substantial amount invested to make it one of the most unique and striking VW's that we have seen. We should also stress that while the paint is certainly not conservative it is unbelievably high quality as is the entire car. Like so many VW's it has not been "cut-up", remains free of wide flares and modifications that are in poor taste or quality.

CONDITION SUMMARY 1966 VW BEETLE

EXTERIOR PAINT & BODY

- Finished in brilliant red with multi-color flames (red/orange and a slight hint of blue) up the front and sides...Simply spectacular (Refer to the photos)

- Completely disassembled / trim removed with exceptionally paint quality

- Laser straight body - NO signs of previous damage or repairs to any part of the car - No rock chips, door dings, truly show quality

- Totally straight front inner trunk area with NO rust or signs of previous or current damage

- Engine reportedly rebuilt within the past 1,000~ miles to 2187~cc specifications with an estimated 100+ horsepower

- VERY strong running / driving VW but not "over built" so that it is unreliable or too high performance for regular street use

- Weber Bug Type I 44IDF carburetors

- Freshly tuned with trick parts like a transparent blue distributor cap, spark plug wires

- Chrome air canisters and upgraded air-cleaners

- Hex bar throttle linkage

- Polished and chromed engine components including "Doghouse" and other components

- Carburetors recently tuned and synchronized

- Scat 4 speed transmission shift level with reverse lockout

- Dual exhaust in color coordinated black (Sounds great!)

- 4 wheel disc brakes

- New KYB shock absorbers

- Slightly lowered and sits / rides perfectly

- All gauges work including tachometer

- Heavy Duty clutch and all related components

- All suspension is in perfect condition with new shocks, CV boots, brakes hoses and pads and much more (Reflect recent restoration)

- Totally straight, rust free underside - No signs of previous damage (Please refer to photos)

MISCELLANEOUS

- VIN plate & engine match proper Volkswagen production / manufacture dates

- Passed California safety inspection (fully functional lights, turn signals, etc.)

- Smog exempt in California (vehicles 1975 and older are exempt)

- Clear title (California)

A DRIVE IN THE VW

The VW starts immediately under all conditions and is totally reliable. With considerable more power than a stock VW, the car is an absolute blast to drive. The independent inspection on the VW revealed no issues with the engine, transmission or major systems (brakes, suspension, rear transaxle, electrical system, etc. In fact the mechanic indicated that virtually all of the components appear fresh and that the car is as strong as any VW he has driven in his memory. It has excellent power and can be driven well in excess of any posted highway speed with NO problem. It does not leak significant fluids, smoke and sounds very healthy. The engine is very clean and has considerable chrome and other polished components. There is in noise in the drive-line and the clutch engages smoothly and properly.

The Beetle steers straight, stops straight and has excellent brakes as a result of the proper 4 wheel disc brake conversion. The underside of the car is clean and free from damage, rust and any signs of previous repair of accidents. We encourage a review of the photos as the old adage "A photo is worth a thousand words" clearly applies in this instance! All of the electrical components are functional and the car passed California's strict safety inspection for lights, turn signals, wipers, within the previous week. The car is licensed and registered in California and, of course, has a free and clear title.

CONDITION COMMENTS

When it comes to the cosmetic condition of the Volkswagen, the car is in absolutely beautiful condition. The body, paint and exterior trim are very hard to find fault with. It is apparent that considerable time (and expense) was spent on the paint work resulting in a finish that is as smooth as glass. Additionally, the panel fit is great with solid closing doors, trunk hood. The exterior trim including the bumpers, black trim and lenses are in excellent condition. The quality of the work is very high and the car is ready to be enjoyed and driven either to shows or as a regular, highly unique VW.

The trunk and engine bay are spotless and consistent with the condition of the car's exterior and interior quality. It is apparent that no short cuts were taken in the building / restoration of this desirable 1966 Beetle "Street Rod."

The interior has been totally restored using high quality materials. The car has comfortable seats and, for safety, seat belts for front occupants. The dash contains a full complement of gauges that are tasteful and functional. The original speedometer remains in place and also works.

An aftermarket steering wheel (LaCarrera) has been added and the "Scat" shift lever provides a nice appearance. The seats and all interior surfaces are in beautiful condition (front & rear) and free from any signs of wear or damage. The carpet is excellent as is the headliner. The dash is free from any damage and the gauge / instruments are clear. The electrical system is excellent and a quality Kenwood KDC-3011radio, Alpine speakers in the rear and 3" Alpine {"Power speakers in the front.

We often times receive questions that go something like: "Does the car really look as good as it does in the photographs"? The answer in this case is a definitive NO. In this case, the VW looks better in every respect!! Perhaps most important, this is an opportunity to own an amazing piece of history at a fraction of the actual build / restoration costs.

This car is a perfect show car for the upcoming season and would also make a perfect collectible, "high end" driver that will attract attention in virtually every venue. MISCELLANEOUS GENERAL INFORMATION

- We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive. We do not use brokers, terminal shipping or other discount methods. Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping.

- As with virtually all collector/specialty vehicles, we find that parts and resources are readily available for this (and most every vehicle), thanks in large part to the Internet!

- In addition to the purchase price of the vehicle, California buyers will be subject to sales tax, documentation fee, DMV transfer fees and license/registration. Out-of-state buyers will be responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle and any local taxes/fees will be the purchaser's responsibility to pay in their respective state. IMPORTANT NOTE: if the vehicle is delivered or driven in California and driven on California roads, sales-tax, license registration and transfer fees will be assessed per California law.
