Also known as "Baby Merc" or the "Little Brother" to the 300 SL, 190 SL's make a great and fun collector automobile. These cars were guaranteed to sell to enthusiasts who couldn't stretch to a Gullwing and didn't need the electrifying performance of a Gullwing. Although the 190SL shared the same wheelbase as the 300SL, a number of it's major components came from the 180 Saloon. Several modifications were made between the unveiling of the prototype in New York at the New York Motor Show and the beginning of production in the Spring of 1955. The first uni-body Mercedes Benz used a steel chassis with aluminum hood, trunk lid, doors and dash.

Up for auction is 1957 Mercedes Benz 190SL Coupe in need of completing the restoration. In 1957 there were only 3,332 190SL's built and this SL is one of them. This is VERY EARLY production number 190SL (VIN # 121.040-7500164, Chassis # 121.040-750082).

According to its Original Data Build Sheet, this 190SL is rare removable HARD TOP ONLY model (no soft top), or what Mercedes called the "Coupe", featuring very rare and highly desirable color combination of Black (Schwarz) Exterior over Red (Rot) Leather Interior. Engine is also original and it's number (121.921-7500187) matches the original Data Build sheet!! It is very rare and hard to come across ALL NUMBERS MATCHING Merceds SL, especially after 56 years of its life!!! This Mercedes is very solid, numbers matching, and it makes a great candidate for a show quality restoration!!! Original Black on Red Color Scheme is just icing on the cake!!!

Today, this legendary German Sports Car is 56 years old, and even after all those years, it still has that beautiful and timeless charm, and with its grace and beauty this legendary 190SL will be stopping the local traffic and turning heads for years and decades to come!! For a human being, 50 years is a good amount of time, but to an automobile it's an eternity! The ravages of time aren't just from nature. Restoration was started few years ago, and first and hardest step which is body work is completed. Car was very solid to start with so body work was minimal. Company that started restoring this beautiful car unfortunately went out of business before they completed the restoration! They sent out the interior to be redone back into its original Red Leather, but seats and door panels never made it back so they are missing. Also, Hard Top was taken apart, and rear glass is missing. All other Glass is complete, and in great condition. Gas tank was removed and also never returned.

This SL is about 95% complete, and you will receive everything that is pictured!!

Its original welding dots along the front fenders and throughout the vehicles chassis (trunk, floors, etc) are still present, showing originality of this car.

Engine and transmission were put back into the car and now restoration needs to be completed. All instruments are in the car and complete down to its working Kienzle Clock!

Original Matching numbers Engine is complete, spins freely, but it has not been run since restoration was started few years ago. Engine comes with original Solex carburetors. Car now does roll and steer without any problems. It also comes with original Jack and Wheel Lug Nut Wrench.

Fees:

We do charge $185 documentary fee that will be added to the winning bid amount. This fee is used to cover any administrative and paperwork expenses, overnighting the documents to your door, and issuing a 30 days temporary tag.

All buyers are responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered in.

Florida Residents will be responsible for Florida Sales tax, Tag & Title fees at the time of the sale, and out-of-state Residents will be more than likely responsible for their states sales tax, tag & Title fees in their own state.

A temporary tag can be issued if needed to transport the vehicle back to your home state. Temp tags are good for 30 days.
