2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI

This is where we'd typically talk about Subaru's impeccable safety ratings, about their renowned reliability, and about their legendary symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. This is where we'd mention that Subaru is in their fourth consecutive year of sales increases, or that Consumer Reports says they make the best cars in America. This time, though, we're not going to. All of that still applies, of course (you are looking at a Subaru, after all), but that's not why you're here.

You're here because this car can go faster in the snow than most 'rational' cars can go on dry tarmac. You're here because this car looks just as great flying up Pike's Peak as it does sitting in your driveway. You're here because, well, it's an STI. So, rather than bore you with the details of what makes a Subaru a Subaru, we'll just let you sit back and watch a short video of some gratuitous STI hooning. You're welcome.

2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI
With a 6-speed transmission and just under 60,000 Actual Miles

General Description:

This 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI is very clean both inside and out, with reasonable miles for the year. The strong, turbocharged 2.5L boxer engine is rated at 300hp, 300ft/lb torque, and emits an aura of euphoria to the driver's seat at a rate of roughly 300 smiles per hour. Helping keep the power under control are a short throw, 6 speed transmission, driver controlled center differential, and a limited slip front differential, while a sport suspension, forged BBS alloys, and quick ratio steering will keep you pointed in the right direction at all times.

This STI, restored to original factory specifications with OEM Subaru parts, runs very strong and shifts smoothly, just as you'd expect from a late-model, low-mile Subaru. Rex's Repairs:

This car was claimed as a loss due to "water damage," meaning there was no structural damage. Rex swapped out all parts that touched water, including the complete interior, wiring harness, all electronics, rear-end, engine and transmission. The car has been test driven for upwards of 100 miles and all systems are operating perfectly, just as you expect from a Certified Rexconstructed Subaru.

Specific Defects:

This car is in overall great condition, though there are a few cosmetic blemishes. The paint is in good condition, but does show wear in the form of light scuffs on the rear bumper, a small paint crack on the rear bumper, cracking paint along the seam of the trunk and the spoiler, a ding on the left quarter panel, and various light scratches/imperfections typical of any used vehicle. Additionally, all four wheels have a bit of curb rash/corrosion along the edges.

Every known defect has been disclosed and pictured in great detail. The car is rock-solid mechanically; it has very few miles for the year, drives and shifts flawlessly, and has been owned and driven responsibly. At $2,500 below book value, you can't go wrong with this strong, unmodified, low-mile STI.

Please keep in mind, however, that no used vehicle is perfect; expect some normal cosmetic and mechanical wear.

Current Condition:

The car is fully serviced with fresh oil and fluids, with great all season tires. The Subaru Boxer engine is powerful and strong, and the transmission is a smooth shifting 6 speed manual. This STI has a valid West Virginia state inspection sticker, good through 10/14, and has a WV Reconstructed Title, ready to be transferred to and driven in any state of your choosing. The car is very fun to drive and performs just as it did before someone hurt this great-looking STI; just like you expect from your new 2006 Subaru with just 59,272 original miles.

Rex’s Answer: The ReXspection Grading Scale

Upon arrival, Rex evaluates each Subaru and assigns a ReXconstruction grade based on the quality of the car as it existed just before the damaging event. This “pre-damage” grade is “A,” "B," or “C,” based on the component condition of the various systems on the car. For example, while mileage is the best predictor of overall car wear, Rex still inspects and grades suspension, drive train, electrical, interior and exterior conditon and the overall feel of the Subaru. Factors affecting this grade include the region of origin, smoker, pet owner and any other factor that materially impacts the finished product.

Based upon this grade, Rex determines the extent of ReXtoration. Rex automatically correct all issues on an “A” vehicle and virtually all on a “B” car, but Rex will not correct small dings and cosmetic flaws on a “C.” Once you see our grade, you can then choose the right car for you. (A’s and B’s are for those who want the “new car” feel; C cars are popular as reliable work cars and cars for new drivers and college students.)

It’s important to understand the distinction between a Salvage Title and a Reconstructed Title: a Reconstructed Title is issued when a “salvaged” car has been repaired, inspected by a state agency, and declared road-worthy again. Bearing this in mind, car buyers will spend considerably less on a “Reconstructed” car.
