The F430 series marked a significant departure from previous models for Ferrari. The 4.3 liter engine was an entirely new design, replacing the venerable V8 which traced its lineage and architecture to their Formula 1 engines from the fifties. Abandoning the overly complex 5 valve per cylinder heads for a more conventional 4 valve arrangement. The new engine is significantly more powerful, but more importantly replaced the camshaft drive belts with hydraulically tensioned chains eliminating the expense of the dreaded belt changes necessary on the previous models. Although the F430 body and aluminum chassis were an evolution of the 360 Modena, great attention was paid to increasing the downforce generated by the shape at speed while maintaining the same coefficient of drag, enhancing high speed stability.

Near the end of the F430's production run, the Scuderia series was introduced. Extensive use of Carbon Fiber and the elimination of such items as power seats enabled the "Scud" to be 220 pounds lighter than the standard car and more powerful (508 HP versus 483) with the application of a new ion-sensing knock sensor allowing a higher compression ratio as well as revised intake and exhaust manifolds. The transmission was the Superfast2 F1 semi-automatic boasting 60 millisecond shifts. Ferrari claims that the Scuderia is as fast or faster than the Enzo on their test track. First offered in 2008, the Scud became the only F430 Coupe available in America for the 2009 Model year.

Also for 2009, a limited series of 499 16M Scuderia Spiders (135 for the U.S.) was produced. Much rarer than the Coupe, the name referred to Ferrari's 16 World (Mondial) Formula 1 Championships. It was the fastest open Ferrari to date. Between the awesome performance of the model and the guaranteed exclusivity, 16M's have become the stuff of legend.

It has the desirable iPod stereo with JBL speakers, the factory Red satin indoor car cover, spare tire, factory fire extinguisher, and all the books including the presentation book, tools, and accessories.

Driving this magnificent machine is a revelation - the power is brutal, the shifts are lightning fast, and the cornering speeds are virtually beyond comprehension. The overall impression is of a race car on the street. The capabilities of this car combined with the exclusivity and future collectability may be currently unmatched.
