This is Cadillac's second attempt at competing with the likes of the Mercedes Benz SL line.  The first attempt was the ill-fated Italian styled Allante.  In 2006 Cadillac introduced the XLR and with its distinct styling and Cadillac badging has lots of appeal for those looking to roll up to the country club valet in something different from the status quo. Cadillac has done a good job in comparing themselves to the likes of Mercedes SL 550,  BMW 650i and has held up even better against the Lexus SC 430 or the Jaguar XK.
 
The Cadillac XLR is a two-seat luxury roadster that features a retractable hardtop.  Cadillac built this car with all of the luxury features you would ever want, including 18-inch alloy CHROME wheels, adaptive xenon HID headlights, eight-way power heated leather seats, an upgraded Bose audio system with satellite radio and CD changer, Onstar tracking, a well functioning touch screen with a built-in navigation system eliminating numerous single-use buttons making it uncluttered, dual zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and starting, adaptive cruise control....and much more.
 
Cadillac also has done a very nice job on the interior.  The XLR has an upscale cabin complete with eucalyptus wood trim and aluminum accents in addition to the upgraded leather seating area.  Cadillac has stepped up their design functionality.  Also included is the heads-up display showing information such as speed, fuel level and radio channel on the windshield, while the adaptive cruise control automatically keeps a preset distance   from the car directly in front.  They also did a great job with the fit and finish.  The XLR's power top closes and opens in less than 20 seconds competes very favorably with the SL 550. 
 
The XLR comes standard with a muscular yet refined 4.6-liter V-8.  In 2007 they upgraded the transmission to a six-speed automatic, that also allows manual style shifting.  The engine produces 320-HP and 310 pounds-feet of torque to the rear wheels.  I found the XLR almost handles like a "muscle car" especially with the exhaust pkg that Cadillac has installed.  The 0-60-mph dash takes less than six seconds.  While doing high speed driving the XLR feels and sounds like any luxury coupe out there...no road or wind noise.  Cadillac has done a great job with their braking system...stopping from 60 mph takes just 118 feet with NO FADE.
 
Of course being the top of the line for General Motors the XLR comes with antilock brakes, run flat tires, the tire-pressure monitoring system and stability control as well as side airbags that offer head and thorax protection.  For additional security the XLR has rear parking sensors.
 
I am very surprised on how well the XLR drives.  Not as fast as a Corvette, but the magnetic ride control shocks gives this car a great feel when cornering and easily keeps up with its competition. This car handles very well overall and found no disappoints in its all-around performance.
 
The XLR has a CLEAN CAR-FAX AND AUTO-CHECK, the body is in very good condition, and our asking price of $34,900 makes this car a compelling buy.
