1974 Volkswagen VW Thing. Rotisserie Restoration. Show or Go!

BUY FOR LESS THAN HALF OF THE BUILD COST!

Full restoration of this rare 1974 VW Type 181 Thing. Extensive documentation including receipts, manuals, maintenance history, etc. These are becoming rarer by the day. Hard to find ESPECIALLY fully restored like this example here.  Believed to have 78K original miles. Rebuilt motor has approximately 5,000 miles.

THE TYPE 181 WAS A TWO-WHEEL DRIVE, FOUR-DOOR, CONVERTIBLE, OFF-ROAD VEHICLE.  THE 181 WAS ONLY SOLD IN THE UNITED STATES AS THE “THING” FROM 1973-1974. GIVEN THIS, THESE ARE VERY RARE CARS.

-Vehicle put on a rotisserie and restored in 2010.

-Body taken down to bare metal and repainted VW bright Red. Body is straight. No rust anywhere obviously.

-Floor boards are solid and painted / POR15 Rust protection.

-Fully rebuilt 1.5L Horizontally Opposed 4 cylinder (Believed to be the original motor).  Approximately 5K Miles.

-Dual exhaust with chrome tips.

-Engine compartment detailed and painted. Looks good.

-New interior including carpet and seats.

-New chrome and emblems all around.  

-Custom powder coated rollbar.

-Custom side view mirrors so you can actually see out of it!

-Four new custom chrome wheels.

-Four new BFGoodrich All terrain tires.

-Brand new soft top with hardware! Never installed and comes with manual and instruction video. Fires right up and runs great.

PLEASE READ REGARDING CLASSIC CARS!

We do not recommend driving a classic car home.

Old cars are just that, old cars. You need to ship it home. Out on the road, many miles from home is not the place to get familiar with your old car. Obviously we cannot stop you, but this is our recommendation.

Mileage is Exempt.

Unless we have some documentation we always sell classic cars as mileage exempt. That means we do not know the original miles. What we list in the ad is what the odometer currently reads or is based off rebuild information of the engine and or body/chassis. Also, you cannot do a Carfax or Autocheck on any VEHICLE older than a 1981.

You have to call us with any questions. If you email several questions we will tell you to call. If you are serious about buying a vehicle, you need to call us.

At our dealership we work very hard to accurately describe our vehicles through text descriptions and elaborate photos. When you purchase a pre-owned vehicle it is not a new vehicle.
