The Oldsmobile 98 was considered the epitome of the Oldsmobile division of General Motors in the early ‘50s. With the success of the 98 model, the company didn’t fix what wasn’t broken. A redesign of the 98 came in 1954 as that year’s model was the first in the third generation of the 98s. In that line, there was the standard 98, the 98 sedan and a 98 coupe. Factory-standard options on the 98 included bumper guards, rubber simulated carpets front and rear, electric clock, lined trunk, dual horns, cigarette lighter, aluminum door sill plates, turn signals, chrome rocker panel moldings, deck lid ornament, foam rubber seat cushions, padded dash, parking brake light, courtesy light package, stainless steel wheel discs, windshield washer, and deluxe steering wheel with horn ring. Two of the more unique features on this Holiday 98 Coupe are the autronic eye and the rarely-seen rear A/C. GM introduced the first automatic headlight dimmer called the “autronic eye” in 1952 on their Cadillac and Oldsmobile models. The system's photoresistor and associated circuitry were housed in a tube on the dashboard. An amplifier module was located in the engine compartment that controlled the headlight relay using signals from the dashboard-mounted tube unit. Even in the warmer states, the backseat passengers could stay cool. The rear plastic vent tubes bring the cool air to those in the back seats as well as the front. If these rare exclusives sound interesting, then MotoeXotica has the right Oldsmobile Holiday for you. MotoeXotica has acquired a 1954 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday two-door hardtop — with the exclusive, factory correct original features. The rear A/C and autronic eye were seen as advanced for the 1950s, and our showroom has advanced with our newest addition. The car we have was built in Lansing, Michigan, but the coupe left the factory on Day 1 and still looks the same today. Other than the original features, the original interior is correct blue pattern cloth material. There are plastic slipcovers that have been newly installed. They have preserved the overall condition of the upholstery which looks fantastic. Be the first to unwrap them like a Christmas present! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the exterior may be as gorgeous as the interior. The recent re-spray of the original factory colors of Baltic Blue (42) and Capri Blue (40) showcases the car. This paint is in excellent condition but shows some minor wear because of usage on this 59-year old auto. The bumpers are in excellent condition, and the brightwork is correct and excellent as well. The original Oldsmobile emblems are intact and proudly show Oldsmobile’s finest work. Under the hood, the engine is a 324-CID, 185 HP four-barrel carburetor. It is also an overhead valve Rocket V8. The engine in the car we have is correct. The mileage reads 70,999, but the previous owner said the odometer broke at 71,000 on April 29, 2004. He claims the car has since only had 1,000 miles. This is documented in the owner’s manual. Some other pieces of history come with this vehicle. Original Oldsmobile art and the 1954 shop manual are included with this car. An original ’54 Oldsmobile sales brochure accompanies this fine auto. Have your own personal holiday every day with MotoeXotica’s 1954 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Coupe. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
