Many consider the 1949 through 1951 Mercury’s as some of the best looking and driving cars of all time. For this reason, they are the some of the most popular cars on the market today for customizing, chopping, lowering and hot rodding. The advertisements for this car declared it to be "The car that truly dares to ask 'Why?'", referring to the idea that a big car couldn't also be economical. The Mercury was priced in the thousand dollar range, several hundred dollars more than the Ford V-8, several hundred less than the Lincoln-Zephyr and about the same as the upper range Oldsmobile and Dodges and the lower-range Buicks and Chryslers, sales from all of which, it was hoped, the new Mercury would usurp. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer the handsome, original and uncut 1949 Mercury Coupe you see pictured. This particular car has benefitted from a complete frame off restoration and a 12 volt conversion – and it looks fantastic! The previous owner purchased the car in 2005 and spent 3 years in the restoration process. Great job on a solid car! Finished in a deep burgundy, the paint is in great shape and only shows minor imperfections such as very minor rock chips. The body is straight as an arrow and solid. The chrome has been re-chromed and it looks great with a brilliant shine. The front hood ornament and door handles do show some pitting, however, are still very usable! Overall this Mercury is clean and shows extremely well. Inside, the interior has been completely reupholstered and finished in gray tweed which looks excellent. The front and rear seats show no sign of wear or tear. The door panels are finished in the gray tweed with complimenting gray vinyl. The headliner is also finished in gray vinyl and it looks great. The burgundy carpet is in great shape as well. The dashboard looks excellent and houses a set of aftermarket white faced Auto Meter gauges and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/USB/Aux head unit. Under the hood, you’ll find a completely overhauled Mercury Flathead V8 attached to a 3-speed manual transmission, complete with overdrive. The engine bay is tidy and clean. As mentioned before, it has been converted to 12 volt for reliability and functionality purposes. The car sits upon a set of 15” color matched steel wheels with 1951 Mercury hubcaps wrapped in G78-15 white wall tires. The wipers have been converted to electric. This Mercury would make an excellent addition to any collection or as a great Sunday driver. The VIN is 9CM110854 and the mileage currently shows 1,344. It is being sold on a clean and clear Illinois title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
