Overview:

I purchased this Passat from vzwtips TDIClub forum member in February of 2013, I absolutely love this car. The B5.5 diesels (Passat 2004-05) did not come with a manual transmission in the US, so this car is a pretty rare bread. The conversion was done at 178,xxx miles (about 5k miles ago) and is top notch, everyone who drives this car cannot believe it is not factory original. Everything works as it should, cruise, reverse lights, etc. At the time of clutch install was performed all of the standard maintenance items required for a high mileage TDI were also performed, this includes the dreaded Balance Shaft Module that is known to fail on this engine the BSM has been removed all together. This car is setup and ready to go for another 100K miles before another major maintenance item is to be performed (see below for a complete list of things replaced/serviced).

Again I am very sorry to see this car go, it has been tuned by TDTuning and pulls like a freight train. It's estimated to have close to 300ft lbs. of torque, and will engage traction control on dry payment very easily. In addition on the 700 mile return trip after picking car up I was cruising at 80mph (via GPS not speedo) and got 43mpg trip average (hand calculated).

If you haven't been in a B5 Passat before, it is great car to ride in. Coming from owning an 02 Jetta TDI for over 10 years it is like riding in a Cadillac, also tons of room for full sized adults in the rear seat or easy car seat installation. If you have ever been interested in B5 TDI and like the idea of stick, if you are not serious, email me to go for a drive. It will let you know if you would be interested in one in the future.

If seem like I am doing a hard sell on this car, it is just because I am very passionate about how great of car it is for the price. If I had a family member or close friend in the market I would prefer the car to go to them, that's how much I like this car.

Reason for Selling:

At that time of purchase my wife was working second shift and I was working first, with a baby on the way I really felt we needed to have two fuel efficient cars to get around in. At that time I sold my diesel truck and found this great Passat to compliment the wife’s 4 door TDI Golf auto. Since February my wife has moved to working First Shift and does not like driving stick, and we really need to have a good reliable truck as our second car. I really wish we were keeping this Passat and selling the Golf, but my wife is adamant that she does not want to part with Golf TDI and since I am the one getting the truck I have agreed. I love this car, as it is really my dream car, but it is not being driven much now so it should really go to a good home.

The Good:

The following was all replaced/added at time of manual conversion (178K Miles):

·         Timing Belt, TB tensioner, TB Roller

·         Water Pump

·         Serpentine belt

·         Water flange (back of head)

·         Tandem pump seal

·         VW OEM Motor mounts

·         Alternator pulley - 022 903 119D

·         ECU tuning by TDTuning - Stage 2 for manual transmission (EGR delete)

·         Cabin filter

·         Oil filter

·         Air filter

·         Fuel filter

·         5 Speed Manual Transmission - FHN

·         Transmission bracket - Driver's side (left) - 8D0-399-113-AG

·         Transmission bracket - Passenger side (right) - 8D0~399—114S

·         Hydraulic clutch line

·         Clutch pedal

·         Clutch pedal starter interlock switch - 3B1 911 807A

·         Clutch pedal cruise switch - GQO 927 189

·         Clutch pedal cruise switch plug - 6N0 972 704

·         Brake pedal

·         Clutch (1.8t Valeo)

·         Shift linkage (V6 or 1.8t OK) ~

·         Axles for manual

·         Transmission was drained and filled with Amsoil 75-90 severe duty synthetic

This is what I have done in the short time I have owned car:

·         Had local Auto body shop buffed out fine scratches and steamed cleaned interior

·         Replaced Floor Mats with matching ones from UK.

·         Replaced rear door lock assembly

The Yokohama tires appear very new, probably less than 10k or so on them and do very well in the snow.

The Ugly:

The car does have 183,xxx miles on it so there is some normal wear and tear. The interior is light beige color and does show some stains that could not be removed from steam cleaning, overall the interior is in very good and what one would expect with a car with less half these miles.

Some hood chips on the hood, and one noticeable ding (no paint issues around ding). The paint is in great condition for a car with this many miles, kind of impressive really, but there is no way to avoid those misc rock chips.

The Bad:

There is not anything mechanically wrong with the car that I am aware of. The suspension is still very plush riding still (the B5 must have way better suspension components then the A4 Jettas). With all the extra power on tap, you can get some wheel hop when hard accelerating. If I were to keep the car I was going to eventually install a stiffer riding suspension
