About this vehicle

1948 Chevrolet Custom tow rig.

Vehicle Details

This 1948 Chevrolet started out live as a 3 ton tow truck. We used the cab and the chassis, removed the drivetrain and suspension, upgraded to a Dart GM big block with a tunnel ram dual carb manifold, a turbo 400 automatic transmission and a 12 bolt rear end. Because we wanted to use the oversize visor a chop top was not going to work, so we lowered the cab with a body drop and sectioned 12 inches out of the body.

We stitch welded the body back together and painted it Orange with black accents. We covered the seat with a distressed brown leather. The original PTO powered tow set up was replaced with an electric warn winch. The tow arms were fabricated using styling from a model T front frame rail. Custom built front and rear bumpers with 1 ton D -rings can handle heavy pushing or pulling loads. New Steer tires in the front and huge traction tires on the rear complete this exaggerated 49’ tow rig.
