‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is very happy to offer you this beautiful 1939 Buick Special Business Coupe! With all of the Ford & Chevy hot rods out there, it’s really nice to see something a little different. Originally restored in the early 2000’s, this little Coupe has been extremely well-maintained w/ lots of cool upgrades added over the past few years. It was built to look great, but it was also built to drive and enjoy, and they certainly succeeded in every way. The original Buick body is 100% steel, w/ reproduction steel running boards added during the restoration. The front end of the 1939 Buick Coupe was quite unique, as it featured the mustache grille, w/ eyes, nose, cheekbones, and mouth, which was a one-year only design. This ’39 Buick Coupe is finished in Porsche Red throughout, w/ replated chrome grille, bumpers & bumper guards. The Porsche Red paint has held up remarkably well over the years and still shows very nicely. The original cowl vent is still fully functional, the quarter windows slide open nicely, the rear windows are smoked, and the door & trunk locks are in good working order. She has a nice low stance, and sits on aluminum IROC 5-spoke wheels, wrapped w/ BF Goodrich TA Radial tires (P205/60/R15). You can walk around this Coupe a dozen times and it looks great from all angles. Suspension consists of long trailing-arms w/ coil springs and separate shocks behind the axle, similar to a 1965 Chevrolet pickup. Other features include power brakes w/ 4-wheel discs, and power steering w/ large diameter anti-sway bar (see undercarriage photos).
When you open the driver’s door, you will find a mostly gray velour interior w/ red piping, as well as beige Jaguar power bucket-seats, which were installed a couple of years ago (head-rests included). Other features include the original painted dash dressed up w/ lots of chrome, chrome interior moldings, new Dolphin gauges (which fit perfectly into the original dash opening), tilt-steering column, Lecarra 4-spoke billet aluminum/wood steering wheel, Vintage Air conditioning & heat (blows cold), custom aluminum door handles & window cranks, and all new carpeting, which was installed when the Jaguar power bucket seats were installed. There is currently no radio or sound system in the car. The interior is super comfortable and fully functional in every way.
Powering this cool Buick Coupe is a 350ci/300hp small-block Chevy crate motor, dressed up w/ finned aluminum valve covers w/ matching oval air cleaner assembly. The motor is linked to a 700R4 automatic transmission w/ a shift kit, which feeds power to the 10-bolt rear axle w/ 3.23 gears. She fires up instantly w/ the flick of the wrist, and she runs and drives beautifully in every way! She feels extremely solid w/ no rattles, squeaks or unwanted noises, and has plenty of power & torque when it’s needed. The dual-exhaust system w/ Flowmaster mufflers sounds awesome, and the 4-wheel disc brakes can stop this Coupe on a dime. A plethora of records, receipts, invoices, and spare parts, as well as a front-end vinyl bra, will all go to the new oner of this beautiful vintage Buick.
Again, if you have been searching for a unique street rod that can be driven & enjoyed to the fullest, but also one that certainly won’t break the bank, you will want to take a very close look at this beautiful 1939 Buick Special Business Coupe.
