The original Nissan Z-car, the Fairlady Z (S30) was introduced as the brand’s halo car for the 1970 model year and was marketed in the U.S. as the Datsun 240Z until 1973. This 1971 240Z is equipped with an upgraded 2.8-liter L28 inline-six engine and features a 5-speed manual transmission, front disc brakes, an aluminum radiator, an ANSA exhaust system, and dual SU carburetors.

Furthermore, this 240Z was refinished in silver during the 1990s and features chrome bumpers and exterior trim, recessed headlamps, a driver’s side mirror, a rear fender-mounted antenna, Z-emblems on the C-pillars, polished dual vertically-stacked exhaust tips, and 14” wheels dressed in Dunlop tires. Some cosmetic imperfections including small cracks and bubbles in the paint do exist. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.

The cabin is appointed with black vinyl and cloth upholstery spanning the front bucket seats and door panels. Accessories include a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, Datsun-branded door sill guards, a center console armrest, manual window cranks, a locking glovebox, a heated rear window, and aftermarket speakers paired with a Kenwood CD stereo. The dashboard lights and air conditioning system are nonfunctional.

A larger 2.8-liter L28 inline-six was installed under prior ownership and sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine features an upgraded aluminum radiator, dual SU carburetors, and an ANSA exhaust system. The car is also equipped with power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes, rack and pinion steering, and independent suspension with a front stabilizer bar. Routine maintenance items were addressed during my ownership including replacements of the engine oil, spark plugs, ignition wires, thermostat, and clutch master and slave cylinders.
