1976 Porsche 911S Targa, fully rebuilt inside and out. Carrera RSR backdate, fully rebuilt engine and all other components with less than 1,000 miles.
This is a fully rebuilt car with a complete, no expense spared mechanical overhaul undertaken in late 2023 and early 2024. The car is in San Francisco, and just passed smog in January. There are zero oil or fuel leaks, and the engine, transmission and all other mechanical components run like / are new.
The engine had a bottoms up overhaul completed along with all mechanical components; highlights including:
- A full bottom end rebuild of the 2.7L engine, complete with a leak down test and replacement of leaking pistons
- Cylinder head studs replaced from original
- Replacement of fuel / oil lines & hoses, fuel tank
- Replacement of both camshafts and rocker arms
- New fuel injection system
- New timing chains, chain ramps, and updated pressure fed tensioners
- Complete cleaning and refurbishment of crankcase
- Overhaul of exhaust system including replacement of exhaust studs in crank case, and conversion to catalytic converter replacing thermal reactors
- Replaced valve covers with turbo style
- New clutch, clutch cable, and other parts of the clutch and pedal assembly
- Nearly all gaskets, mounts, brackets, fittings and other miscellaneous parts replaced
- New electrical throughout including new battery and alternator
- Replaced 5 blade fan with 11 blade fan
Additionally, the body kit includes metal wide-body fenders (not carbon fiber), bullet mirrors, yellow headlights, ducktail spoiler and RSR badging. The accordion bumpers have been converted to the long-nose design of the RSR.
For the interior, the leather has recently been redone with no rips or sign of wear. The passenger side window assembly has been replaced. All electrical components and knobs / levers inside the car are in working order. Horn and turn signal assembly recently replaced.
Current issues with the car are minimal. Only item not currently functional is the cigar lighter. Minimal interior wear visible upon closer inspection.
Clean title and passes California smog. Full records of the mechanical overhaul available, with records going back to 2020. Given the lack of historical records, it was my goal to do a full rebuild and start fresh, which is where this car is now.
Overall, this car is a wonderful car to drive and has been an absolute blast to own. The combination of a Targa top with an RSR backdate is incredibly unique and special.
