This the first year for the Cougar and there was only 20,700 XR7s and of those only 4% are accounted for according to the registering. This 1 is a numbers  matching non vinyl top, power steering,  power brake and both work wonderfully.  The new parts I've installed is new all 4 brake wheel cylinders, new brake lines where needed, new fuel pump, fuel lines where needed, brake master cylinder,  points, selinoid, and much more. The xr7 runs, drives and stops as should . The 289 4bbl motor is as stock as stock gets. Still has factory manifolds l think the exhaust system is stock. This makes me think this Cougar escaped the hot rodders cause the first thing they do is bolt on headers and duel exhaust.
Motor doesn't smoke or have any other signs of being worn. But the real buy is all the places these and the Mustangs rot away is solid.... frame rails,  torque boxes shock towers, leaf spring supports are all solid,  even the trunk is solid except a 2 Inch by 4 inch has a fiberglass patch,  complete floor panels have been installed.
For the interior is best I can tell is mostly complete,  door panels need bottom clips,  and I have the original carpet and headliner but needs to be installed,  seats are premium 2 tone medium and light saddle are in great shape except the passenger seat has 3 or 4 holes poked in it, see pic's,  I don't have the radio and the shifter console is just sitting in place for pictures. Dash pad needs attention,  all window glass is as clear as the family mini van but a little stiff. Passenger side striped so I'm including all 4 window regulators see pics The driver door is missing the spring so Im adding a full hinge. I misplaced the driver side interior door handle and temporarily using a window handle.
speed odometer works great as well as the tach odometer, fuel gage and amp gage.  Can't get the temp gage to work, bought a new sending unit but still didn't jive.  Ive added pics of all items to help finish the car.  The foot pump windshield washer works The sequential signal and emergency flashers work great,  the eyelids open nicely but when lights are turned off the driver side closes halfway and needs a little assistance but then closes. The battery quit holding a charge so battery will need to be replaced.
The body in my opinion needs what automatically comes with a good body and paint job.  The body lines hood, fender and doors needs aligned, prep, fill, sand and spray.
If buyer is shipping I will assist transport company in any way I can.
Someone is going to get a great finishing "Numbers Matching" project classic collector car. I'm out of funds and want someone like you to give it the finish it deserves. Thanks for looking.
