Selling my beautiful Datsun 1600 Roadster after almost 20 years of ownership. Please note, although the car is in excellent overall condition, some mechanical work will be necessary to get this beauty back on the road. Details below.
Purchased the car around 2005 from California. The car is rust-free and has been garaged as long as I’ve owned it. I mainly drove this car on weekends between 2005 and 2012. Around 2012, I was performing some basic maintenance and managed to break off a spark plug. From there, I also managed to break off a carbon extractor bit used to try to get the spark plug out. From there, life continued, but the car has sat in my garage waiting for attention. The car has 34,535 on the clock; this is likely 134,535 from the service history.
Cons:
Spark plug needs to be removed along with the extractor bit. See photos. I planned on taking the head off, so I have removed some items in order to do that. Please check pics. All items will be with the vehicle - example air filter encasement. Carbs are loosened in order to get to the head.
Brakes. Haven’t driven it in a while, so you’ll need to bleed and replace fluid. Front disks and rear drums. I bled the brakes once under my ownership. The brake pedal is to the floor currently, so brakes will need to be checked and overhauled.
Rag top. I never used the top as I always drove on non-rainy days. It’s there but not in the same condition as the rest of the vehicle. Would likely consider replacing it if you plan on using the rag top.
I have since disposed of the 12v battery; you’ll need to purchase a new 12v battery.
Dash has a crack in the vinyl, quite common on these. Overall in great shape. Have included a picture of the crack.
A little surface rust on an area of the rear bumper. A little surface rust on the front right headlight shroud.
Car will need to be picked up on a trailer.
Pros:
Car is stock, no aftermarket additions I am aware of. There is a CD player hidden in the glovebox, but that can easily be removed.
Car bodywork and frame are rust-free and straight. The car lived in the Santa Monica area of California and has been garaged 100% during my ownership on the East Coast.
Paintwork is in fantastic condition. The car was professionally sprayed by Theatrical Auto, Hollywood, in 1990. The car was stripped to bare metal and 2-stage paint applied. Paint still looks great and will include the invoice along with other service history.
Engine and transmission drove great up until my spark plug faux pas. The car started every time, no issues.
Tires have good tread.
Great rubber around the windscreen, no cracks or chips in the windscreen.
All lights and electrical fully functioning on the last drive.
Exhaust in great shape.
Suspension and steering all in great working order.
Maintenance records/history.
My hope is that someone with the right skills will grab this and get it back on the road. I love this car and do not want to sell it. Alas, I'm moving, so I need to sell, hence the low starting price and reserve. Please do not bid on this unless you are able to get it picked up within 2 to 3 weeks of the auction end. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Good luck in bidding.
