2003 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 Xtracab

For consignment, a 2003 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 Xtracab with brand new TRD wheels, a sweet lift, and a great coat of red paint.  Tacomas or "Taco's" as they're known, are amongst the hottest vehicles in the preowned and specialty market, known for their astounding reliability, efficiency and performance.

Exterior
Radiant Red is an appropriate name for the bright hue that emanates from this midsize truck on stilts, and it covers the grille surround and bumper cover in front while a smoked bug guard contours to the hoodline.  It was repainted once with the original color.  TRD is expressed nine times on the exterior assuring that this won't be confused with your run of the mill Tacoma, but the combo of the wheels, paint and lift do some talking as well.  A sliding window is in back of the cab overlooking the bed which is clean and protected by a bed cover.  Door handles, mirrors, fender flares, and bumpers all take on the monochromatic red paint which makes black features such as the 17-inch TRD wheels and tinted quarter windows absolutely make this truck pop.  Rain guards have been added to the windows and the rear bumper is topped with a black, textured cover that allows for step up.  The 265/70R17 tires have a late 2021 date code.  For the age of the truck, the exterior is in stupendous shape, and we could not find any glaring imperfections on this pampered 4x4.

Interior
Gray molded plastic door panels with a cloth insert house plastic hardware and buttons, all in great shape with just the slightest of usage patina.  The gray cloth bucket seats and their sporty head restraints are in decent shape with some discoloration and compression, particularly on the driver's seat.  There's also random stains and a burn mark.  In back, a pair of small seats flip up to open up a storage area that includes bins, all in decent shape with some usual usage marks.  On the steering wheel, a loose fitting cover surrounds the rim while the dashboard has been treated to the red paint of the exterior and looks clean as it houses the white faced gauge cluster in the sightline of the driver.  In the center, the A/C controls and an AM/FM/CD radio add black to the red surround and gray is resumed in front of the passenger.  In the center console the shifter cants to the driver while the smaller range selector resides just adjacent, all in front of the requisite cupholders built into the molded plastic.  Low pile gray carpet is protected by Tacoma rubber mats and the headliner is showing a bit of age but is fully intact and clean.

Drivetrain
You can tell a lot about a car and its owner by the engine bay, and this one is clean as a whistle!  It's a 3.4 liter V6 that was replaced at 195,000 miles, but meticulously gone through before installation including seals and timing belt.  Its fuel injected and tied to a 5-speed manual transmission armed with a newer clutch, flexplate, and bearing, is capable of splitting the power between axles, both housing 4.10 gears.  A newer radiator and hoses are onboard.  Power disc brakes hide behind the front wheels while power drums are in back.

Undercarriage
For a truck with such offroad prowess, we're not sure this one has ever seen a trail.  Super clean underneath with zero dirt, minimal surface rust, and no grease or leaks.  Our consignor says the frame has been sanded and painted so maybe it's dirty days are past it, or ahead of it.  Either way, it's clean underneath where a single exhaust finds a stock style muffler before exiting on the right.  Double wishbone suspension in front and leaf springs in back move you along the trail with ease.

Drive-Ability
The perch is high and provides great views of the road below and the all terrain tires make a bit of noise, but not intolerable by any stretch.  Shifts are crisp and acceleration is adequate.  Handling is as expected in a high centered truck and brakes are on point.  True to Toyota quality, all functions work as intended.  While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Midsize 4x4's are in high demand and it's amazing how values have remained high.  This one's a bit older but has been well maintained and when things needed fixing, they were taken care of.  Cosmetically, it's in great shape and whether it's a national park or a parking lot, traversing in a lifted, bright red truck will get you noticed, plus it will be impossible to lose your truck.  Never utter the words "Now, where did we park..." ever again!
