The clean lines made the Foxbody hatchback incredibly popular in the early '90s, and everyone knew to look for the 5.0 badges and slick body lines on these beauties. Today these are still able to turn heads and the clean, unmolested lines of this particular LX look as good as ever. The Calypso Green Metallic paint job appears to be original, showing remarkably little wear that is quite frankly not commensurate with its age. Although, with only 54,450 actual miles on the clock, a solid, very clean paint job like this might be expected after all. This Mustang has been pampered and garage kept since new, and the results speak for themselves. It is a rare survivor and they do not get much cleaner than this. If you are looking for a car to upgrade or turn into something amazing, this is what you want to start with. In its current form, it is probably more fun per dollar than most cars.
The gray cloth and vinyl interior is in great shape, offering stock bucket seats that provide plenty of bolster support for both the driver and passenger. The door panels, center console and the rear seat are all quite nice, and even the headliner remains taut, further showing off the limited wear accrued with only 54K miles on the clock. Ford's fat steering wheel feels great in your hands, with an airbag added just a couple years before, and the relatively upright greenhouse makes the Mustang very user-friendly in traffic, where it's the ultimate point-and-shoot machine. The factory A/C blows cold, so this is a car you can still drive every day. Other options include sunroof, power windows and locks, cruise control and an upgraded Sony AM/FM/CD/AUX stereo, making this a fairly loaded grand tourer that looks today like it did in 1992. With rear seats that fold down, cargo capacity is impressive and the trunk area shows only minor wear despite being nearly 30 years old. Even the original cargo cover is still in great shape!
The venerable 5.0-liter HO V8 under the hood was the go-to powerplant in the 1990s and it remains fast and fun today. The hard part is finding one that hasn't been modified, raced and abused, but this one appears to be almost entirely stock, with the welcome exception of an upgraded Flowmaster X-pipe dual exhaust system for some added horsepower. Still wearing its original intake manifold, throttle body and even the stock valve covers, it is one of those untouched cars that just seems to run and drive better than most. Thanks to the quick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission, it snaps through traffic with real authority, and the original 8.8-inch rear end has relatively tall gears inside so it is awesome on the highway. 16-inch five-spoke wheels look great on the Fox body and carry Hankook performance radials that give it the right Mustang stance.
