1962 Ford Thunderbird convertible. Runs, drives and shifts great. Rebuilt (2012) original 390 engine. Rebuilt Cruise-O-Matic transmission (2011). FPA ceramic headers, slight exhaust leak on drivers side. Rebuilt Autolite 4100 carburetor (Pony Carbs). New master cylinder. New heater core. Downdraft tube replaced with PCV valve. 1/2” anti sway bar upgraded to 5/8” bar. Transmission oil cooler installed. Generator replaced with alternator. On cold starts if the accelerator is depressed the belt will chirp. That only occurs on startup. Bumpers are straight. Chrome and stainless are bright.  Gauges, radio and wipers all work. Power windows all work.

Interior is in average condition (check pictures). Drivers seat is ripped at one of the seams. Some staining on the rear seats. Old dash was replaced with a new dash. Carpets are new. Visors have a couple of cracks but otherwise look good. Overall, the interior vinyl is, as stated, average. The passenger side air vent needs a new seal at the cowl. It leaks a little water on the carpet when water enters the cowl, i.e. when the car is washed.

Paint is in good condition and looks great. Epoxy primer, color, clear. Deck lid is a slightly different shade than the rest of the car (check pictures). Passengers side quarter panel has a slight wave in the body line (check pictures). Overall the body is straight with no dents or dings and no chips in the paint.

Convertible top functions as it should. Has new convertible top pump and motor, new cylinders. Flip panel motor needs to be rebuilt or replaced. The current motor is no longer able to fully extend the flip panel w/o assistance. The convertible top is serviceable but not in the best condition (check pictures). There is some wrinkling of the trunk sheet metal as shown in the pictures. I don’t know the full history of the car so I don’t know how that happened or to what extent it was fixed or not. I do know that the fitment and function of the deck lid, bumper and tail lights is unaffected so my guess is it was cosmetic damage. There is a thump in the rear area of the car when going over a speed bump too fast. I believe it is the flip panel or convertible top bouncing but I can’t verify that. I do have a new set of trunk mats that go with the car.

The condition of the A/C system is unknown. The system has never been charged since I’ve owned the car (2011). The compressor does spin freely though. As shown in the pictures an a/c knob is missing.

Radiator is original with no leaks but the condition of the core I don’t know.

Tires on the drivers side of the car are the correct 1 1/4” whitewall and probably should be replaced. Tires on the passengers side are 1” whitewalls and are relatively new.

Other things that might be of concern: there are no ash trays in the rear seat armrests, the chrome antenna base is loose and could be tightened, the wire wheel center caps rattle a little when driving.

Overall this is a very nice example of a classic 1962 Ford Thunderbird convertible. Looks, runs and drives beautifully. I’ve mentioned everything I am aware of as regards the condition of the vehicle but keep in mind this is a 62 year old car there may be things I’m not aware of.
