1967 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible

For consignment, a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle convertible with a ten year old restoration that is holding up well, and with some desirable added features that will help put this car on the radar of anyone looking for a '67, often considered one of the more important years of Beetle production.

Exterior
There aren't many colors that don't look good on classic Bug, and red is one that's practically iconic.  This car wears Bright Rally Red that reflects light like a Christmas ball and if an artist was painting this car, white would have to be on the palette to paint reflections.  Meanwhile, the polished metal work on the car pops off the red with fantastic contrast and headlight visors add an extra bit of bling to the headlight rings.  All of the metalwork is in great shape and that includes the emblems and side trim.  The black canvas top and its glass window are excellent and complement the running board and tires which offer a black offset to the red.  15-inch Raider style wheels provide distinctive shoes for this car and are an excellent choice in brushed aluminum finish.  Euro spec tail lights include the ambler turn signal and reverse lights ride the bumper on each side.  Overall, the exterior is in remarkable condition, and we were unable to find any glaring
imperfections.

Interior
Black vinyl door cards look fresh in their frame of body colored metal and their stitched design carries over the sidewalls of the back seat.  In front, weave patterned black vinyl low back seats look good and are known for their resiliency and only the driver's seat shows some compression from use.  The back bench looks barely touched.  A simple steering wheel, black of course, wears a horn ring and iconic Wolfsburg logo on the center cap.  Ahead of it, a speedometer, the single circle gauge present, with a small, square fuel gauge beside it.  Down the red dash we go to find an AM radio and bright glove box with silver accent trim piece just below the "hold on" handle for the passenger.  A wood handled shifter rises cleanly from the floor which is covered in black loop carpet and protected by fitted mats.  The frunk houses a clean spare and gas filler along with a vinyl mat that creates a tidy space.

Drivetrain
Under the rear hatch sits a spotless 1600cc flat 4-cylinder engine fed by a 1-barrel carburetor and producing 53 horses set into motion with a 4-speed manual transmission that keeps power in the back with 4.375 gears.  Drum brakes are found on all four wheels.

Undercarriage
If it's been driven since its restoration 10 years ago, it wasn't much because the underside is only a little less clean than if it was just coming out of the assembly line.  We do note a drop of oil on the pan but all hardware, linkage, and components are free of grease and dirt.  The dual exhaust travels a short distance to a stock muffler where two chrome tail pipes are sent to the back.  Suspension consists of a transverse torsion bar in front and a semi-trailing arm with transverse torsion bar in the back.

Drive-Ability
We're not saying Beetles are toys, but there is just something so fun about them.  You feel it when you see them and you internalize it when you sit behind the wheel.  This car starts up and emits the familiar VW sound as we roll across the test loop to test functionality.  A great little cruiser with eye appeal and an upright cabin that makes visibility quite good.  We note some excessive brake pedal travel but beyond that, the car runs well and all functions represented work as intended.  While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Other than a few mods, this car could be the catalog car for the 1967 brochure.  It got a new battery in July 2024 and so power is assured on this red and black Beetle that's sure to be a crowd pleaser, even if that crowd only consists of the people living in your house.  But as the new owner, understand that Beetle owners are the friendliest, most approachable group at the gas station, so get ready for random conversations.

Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (that's more than 8 acres!). The largest single location consignment dealer of classic and collectible vehicles in the country is located in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, just 1-hour west of Philadelphia off Exit 298 of the I-76 Pennsylvania Turnpike.
