I think part of the reason is the impeccable Toyota build quality and the off road capabilities of these vehicles in particular. Regarding the reliability; I purchased it from the original owner who was a pilot, they are known for their attention to detail when it comes to maintenance. For example, I think I have every document since it was new of repairs that have been performed. Very solid example. Previous owner took it in every couple of years to have the frame inspected for weak spots and coated with a rust preventative material. That certainly helps with the longevity of the vehicle.
