I am the third owner of this wonderful touring GT. Enthusiastically driven so as not to baby it, this girl rewards you with sounds and feedback making you feel like Jackie Stewart, when you're barely breaking the local speed limits. Which is the whole point of owning a sports car like this, to have fun instead of feeling insulated and as though you are driving a simulator. Sound familiar? This particular little British car has that magic feeling that eludes most drivers after they've succumbed to reliable boring modern vehicles, at least most of them. You'll routinely just take off in search of some twisty roads with dips in them, popping the overdrive in and out, surprised by how agile and lithe this old girl with a young heart really is. At this price point, you cannot find a more fun, attention getting sports car. Period.
I've maintained her faithfully and kind of meticulously, i'll admit, but it's all part of the experience with these pieces of rolling artwork. if you're still reading this, you probably understand and embrace this privilege and responsibility.
No disappointments, no bs, she's not perfect in every way, she doesn't need to be for you to be the proud steward put in charge of maintaining the MG marque. Just a lot of good clean fun, with people always commenting on how sweet she is, and telling you their own unique stories.
Ask any pertinent questions, she moves well, stops straight and true, has has some modifications for greater reliability and consistent smooth running, like electronic distributor just added, solid state SU style fuel pump, etc. Engine was stated to have been overhauled back before I bought her in 2012, along with overdrive gone through. Changing the oil in the transmission this week, just part of the deal. I have new wheel bearings, should get to that too. No paperwork to back up claims, just perfect compression, great starts even in cold weather, tan running spark plugs, oh... And no leaks! Everything functions as it should, excellent oil pressure always. One gauge light doesn't work, temp I think. Indulge yourself, if you know you want her, don't miss out, even your wife will love it, if that matters to you. I've never regretted buying her, you won't either. That's a solemn promise.
Inspections welcomed and encouraged, seller will assist with loading for transport to ensure no damage occurs, will take pics, have had some experience with this process.
Update: No structural rust, undercarriage is relatively clean - wax oil treatment back in 2014, done very thoroughly, lots of wax used. Team doing it said all cavities were in great shape for its age. Hope this helps. Currently refreshing 134a charge in AC, adding a special pulley to belt to help compressor grip when running.
More updates: The Union Jack graphic on roof and leading edge of hatch were professionally applied as a wrap, has held up well considering it was ten years ago, but I just about never let the car bake in sunlight. Always go for shade... it was requested I do a walk around video w engine idling...
Note: Recorded video on August 5th, cold start, walk-around, engine sounds, too.
