STATE OF THE CAR: Mileage on the odometer shows just over 24000 (it will keep changing as I drive it)…BUT the previous owner believed it has rolled over, and I am sure he is right, so add 100,000 to the total.
The previous owner had no documentation on a reported engine rebuild prior to his own years with the car. But it feels very strong. The service I had performed to the car confirms it has 10mm cams verse the stock 9mm.
This was originally a Spica fuel injected US model that has been converted to Weber carburetors. This means it cannot be registered in California…which is why I have registered it in Montana (still waiting for the plates). It was made in 10/75 but it was first sold and is registered as model year 1976. The previous owner registered in Connecticut as a historical vehicle. California is the only problem state.
Comes with a ton of service history going back to 2019, and prior owner registration going back even further…to the 1990s, plus factory owners and shop manuals and a Weber carb manual.
WORK DONE BY PREVIOUS OWNER SINCE 2019: Rebuilt front caliper. New rear calipers. New rotors and pads all round. New brake booster. New Ate brake master cylinder. New clutch and slave cylinder. Stainless steel slave cylinder hose. New guibos/donuts in 2022. New transaxle mounts in 2022. New standard type exhaust system (from Headers back). New sump pan gasket 2022. Carbs ultrasonic cleaned and new kit put in 2022. Euro’ throttle linkage installed. Euro’ bumpers installed. GTV6 springs in rear. New top radiator hoses. New brake check valve and hose. Fuel filler vent hose. New interior fan motor. Flush/test heater core / new foam in heat box – Heater ducts not connected. New heater valve. New handbrake cable. New radiator fan switch. Fuel pressure gauge in between carbs. New fuel hose. Front sway bar bushings. Newly and very well upholstered front and rear seats – bought them from an Alfa BBer. New gear lever gaiter. Later door panels (GTV6) , carpet and trunk cover (no speaker holes). The rear interior panels below the rear windows are original and in good condition (no speaker holes). Carb top return spring mount. Tubular headers. Smaller Italian and very period OBA steering wheel. The doors, left and right, are very good, including underneath. Underside, floor and chassis rails, trunk floor are all very solid. 5 Turbina rims all in good shaped with older Pirellis (plenty of tread and no visible cracking but certainly beyond 5 years of age). Later (GTV6) rear hatch with rubber seal – hence the Alfetta GT is just using the old GTV6 badge holes rather than on top of the tail gate. Rear hatch is very clean and rust free.
ISSUES WITH THE CAR: Gearbox shifts well but second gear Syncros get cranky and grind if rushed and when cold. Drives fine, no urgent need to address. The car has an older respray, driver quality, including driver’s door and rear hatch. Subtle waviness in rear quarter panels suggest some filler. Some minor over spay can be found. Some small bubbling below driver’s side taillight, and at bottom of passenger side rear quarter. Some small dings, some paint imperfections. Fuel gauge doesn’t register below 1/4 , but does above. Windscreen washer tank fitted but not connected. Emergency flasher switch/wiring inoperable. Headliner is in good shape but has some stains. Dash board has three cracks, covered up at moment…eventually should be addressed.
RECENT SERVICE BY PREVIOUS OWNER. Oil change and new plugs in last 1000miles Electronic ignition replacing points. All new gaskets from manifold to carb New sealed throttle shaft bearings
RECENT SERVICE BY NEW/CURRENT OWNER. (Performed by Alfa Italia in Burbank CA July 12th and 31st 2024, total for all parts and labor, $8000…lots labor to go through the entire car.
Replace exterior door handles with new locks and keys. Repair rear hatch lock and supply with new
key. Install original front directional signals. Tune carbs. Adjust valves. Adjust timing chain. Confirm
car has 10mm cams, not stock 9mm cams. Replace air horns on carbs with stock air cleaner. Eliminate
fuel odor in cockpit (needed new gas cap but had to check all the fuel lines and connections). Replace
rubber lining around left and right doors. Install new side mirrors. Install heater air ducts/vents. Replace
left rear window regulator. Install new Alfa Romeo side view mirrors, left and right. Replace radiator
and thermostat with new ones (was running hot - now perfect). Drop oil pan and inspect for lower than
normal pressure...found one crank plug missing. Replaced it, checked all the others (6 total), new oil
pan gasket, filter, and oil. Pressure is great now.
STILL TO BE DONE:
Replace solid carb mounts with new rubber ones. Eventually replace front seat belts with new ones. Fix Hazard Light switch/wiring. Hook up windshield washers.
NOTE: VIN is only 14 digits...Carfax can't give report on it. In 1980 they went to longer numbers
