I purchased this car in 2014 and as much as I love it, the reality is that I have too many projects. The Volvo has always been stored inside since I have owned it and the previous owner also kept it inside. Looking past the various colors of paint, I think this is a diamond in the rough as they say. It is titled as a 1964, but has parts from other years. Clean title in my name, matches the vin tag on the driver side firewall.
Body:
Overall I think it’s a solid body. How you see it in the photos, is how I bought it, other than I replaced a section of floor under the drivers feet and the body brace directly under that area, and I took the interior out and painted the rest of the floor with POR15. No cracks in windscreen or windows.
I can tell that there is body filler in the front driver fender and in the passenger rear quarter around the tail light. There is some rust in the underside rear lip of the trunk lid. A spot infront of the driver side rear wheel arch. Of course, assume there is more. The floor and underbody look solid. It has had some repairs around the battery box, that if i was keeping it, I would redo.
Interior:
Seats are bolted in. Interior panels all seem to be present. There is carpet, seat belts, the tray behind the seats, certainly has most of the interior parts. Headliner looks good.
Engine:
The block is a B20 block. Engine is loosely bolted together. Condition and overall completeness unknown. I was hoping for a basic hone, rings and bearings type rebuild? The head is a later fuel injection head, with SU carbs. It has a Volvo 4 speed with overdrive transmission. Rear end appears to be stock. Radiator looks like it was redone.
Loose Parts - the Volvo parts that are along the drivers side on the ground:
There are 2 spare rims so it will have 4 matching. Chrome side strips. Various engine parts. Bumpers and bumper irons. A grille shell and surround. Head lights. Tail lights. A couple of new rear tail light lenses. Looks like a new or good condition Volvo hood badge. A rubber strip in a Volvo bag. Interior parts that were removed when I did the floors are bagged and tagged (seat belts etc). Various engine parts.
My gut feeling is that this car was being pieced together by a former owner to be a fast road car, using parts from different years that appealed to them.
I feel it’s important to reiterate that this is not a matching numbers car and is made up of various model year Volvo 1800S cars. Having said that, for me that was part of the charm as it opens it up as an excellent Restomod, fast road, race car or outlaw type project. Or heck, just a cheaper fun original-ish project using what it already has. I personally feel the P1800 and 1800S are a fantastic design that has stood the test of time.
Please review the pictures and let me know if you need any additional information or would like to see it in person. I have a lot of photos and tried to describe and price the car fairly. Should be a good deal for someone. If you are not paying the balance cash in person, your payment must be made in advance and cleared before pickup.
Thank you.
Please note for pickup scheduling I am not available Aug 16 - midday on the 18. I can work with a buyer on timeframe for pickup, but would prefer it to be within 2 weeks from purchase. If more than 2 weeks is needed, we can workout storage options.
