The original Excalibur was the brainchild of Studebaker's Brooks Stevens, who took inspiration from the famous Mercedes-Benz SSK and decided to make a more modern interpretation. Originally designed in 1964 over a Studebaker chassis with their 289ci V8, but Studebaker's unfortunate demise forced the project in a different direction and connections ultimately landed the car with Corvette power. Considering the car's 2100 pounds and optional 350 horsepower V8 mated to a 4-speed manual, the car was sensationally quick, able to get to 60 mph in just over five seconds and with a top speed of 160mph! Prices started at $7500, which all but eliminated the average man from buying a new one. Their style and performance have endured as one of the most stylish performance cars of the 1960's, so today offer a very unique opportunity for collectors to own a special antique automobile!

This striking 1966 Excalibur SSK Series I Roadster is finished in Dark Green Metallic over Tan leather interior with matching Tan top, side curtains, & tonneau cover! Having traveled only 7,300 miles from new, and garaged all its life, this super original example is as nice as they come! The1966 dated-coded 327ci Corvette V8 provides 300 horsepower and mates to a 4-speed Muncie wide ratio transmission! Options include highly polished chrome 72-spoke 15" wire spoke wheels fitted with 205/75R15 radial tires, functional side exhaust with original custom Excalibur exhaust headers, full running boards with sidestep plates, hinged doors, tinted windshield, wind wings, chrome luggage rack, ventilated power front disc brakes, chrome bumpers, full dash instrumentation with clock, wood steering wheel, original AM/FM pushbutton radio, machine-turned dash, and leather hood strap!

This is likely one of the most beautiful Excalibur SSK Series I roadsters available! Perfectly maintained by its original owner, fantastic color, and brilliantly fast! Powered with its original Chevrolet 327 V8 Turbo-Jet engine and Muncie 4-speed manual transmission offering an exhilarating ride! Under the hood, an upgraded Edelbrock 1406 600cfm with electric choke & air cleaner replaces the original Rochester Quadrajet set-up. The interior was also renewed with all new cabin and door panel carpeting due to age. It's nicely bound with leatherette edging and new shifter boot. The hood strap was also swapped for a correct replacement.

It has since been with its second owner since September 2016, who added very few miles to the odometer while in his superb Excalibur collection! This SSK Roadster is complete with full top & frame, side curtains, boot cover, and cabin tonneau cover included. The 2,100-pound Excalibur Roadster brings awesome American power and sound to the elegant lines Brooks Stevens interpreted from the original Mercedes Benz SSK. The Series I model was built through 1969, with only 359 were ever produced (Roadster and Phaeton styles combined). Only 90 of those Excalibur cars were hand produced in 1966, of which only 20 or so were Roadsters with the entry doors, larger fenders, and protective running boards making them extremely rare and desirable to prominent collectors today! Please call with any questions, but you had better act quickly on this one!
