Local car . Always garaged. Rare P3 edition.( 100 per year ?).
This model Nurembergring model differs from the standard SLAMG 55 in the following ways: larger wheels and brakes, higher oil capacity and extra oil cooling radiators from the 12 cylinder model. Also, limited slip differential, paddle shifters, performance tuned, suspension, and Alcantra Fabric on dash and steering wheel. ( had assembled engine signed by builder)
Comes loaded with heated and cool seats with massage function… and panoramic folding glass top.
Mechanical restorations: I purchased the car six years ago with the intention of doing lots of post retirement touring. My goal was to make this 06 SL as reliable as new. Recent recent medical issues have caused our plants to change..(back surgeries).
I have put 4800 miles on the car since I purchased it.
The following is a list of all the items I replaced during that
period: ( receipts available for each item)
81,533 miles… replaced brake fluid, coolant, limited slip, differential synthetic oil, supercharger oil, power, steering fluid, hydraulic suspension fluid….. also engine mount and transmission mounts.
81,768… 16 spark plugs, spark, 16 spark plugs, spark plug wires, valve cover gasket, engine pan gasket.
82,317 miles… Rebuild ABC HYDRAULIC SUSPENSION, including 2 P reservoirs ( accumulators) and pulsation dampeners. Also, the two front shocks were rebuilt by.
Arnott in Florida to factory spec using new technology …(Warning, don’t purchase a used SL of this vintage without having had the hydraulic suspension rebuilt) don’t ( expensive)
82,700 miles… replaced all engine belts, both tensioners, supercharger clutch.
83,500 miles… new Michelin pilot sport AS tires.
83,911 miles… replaced crankshaft position sensor, gate, driver seat, belt, tensioner.
84,016 miles… replaced pneumatic latch trunk sensor.
PSE pump and control assembly ( for all pneumatics). Expensive.
85,000 miles… replaced both rear brake rotors and pads with factory parts ( front brakes were done by prior owner).
85,826 miles… replaced hydraulic cylinder for the folding top, hydraulic lines for the folding top, new fluid
85,900… Replaced holding top flap Assembly.
Note: The itemized receipts will show a total cost of the above work = $18,026. ( Today, post Covid, it would be considerably more).
Note: it is important to note that the vehicles transmission was replaced by Mercedes Benz Of Laguna niguel” 15,700 miles ago”.
Note: It has been written that this SL 55 engine ( hand built) is considered to be the most reliable Mercedes engine produced.
