The 1973 Buick Riviera GS has a 455 cubic inch (CI) V-8 engine which was 10 hp more than the base 455 V-8 trim. The engine had a lower compression ratio to meet EPA emissions requirements, which reduced its power.
The 1973 Riviera was designed by Bill Mitchell, the vice president of design at GM at the time. The GS package also included a ride-and-handling package with a rear stabilizer bar, whitewall steel-belted radial tires, a specially tuned suspension, additional sound insulation, and "Gran Sport" badging.
