The BMW Z4 is now on its third generation of cars, beginning in 2003, internally known as the E85/E86, the second generation of Z4's internally known as the E89 which was built between 2009 and 2016 which this car is. Beginning with this series, a retractable hard-top was to be used instead of either a soft top or hard top configuration. Its made of a two-piece lightweight aluminum shell that takes 20 seconds to operate and manufacturing of these cars was moved from the US back to the Germany.
