I am the worlds largest builder of Starsky & Hutch Gran Torinos. I have sold many classic cars on ebay to buyers all over the world. A few years ago I found this original 3rd Gen 1982 Trans Am for sale in my neighborhood, so I bought it thinking I might make a Knight Rider KITT replica. I am a body man, so I did my thing on the body and paint. Tuned up the car. It was running poorly with the original computer controlled carburetor and computer controlled distributor. So I put a standard four barrel carburetor and a new one wire distributor on it and it runs very well now. I also did a brake job on it.
One of the reasons I bought it was because it was a totally rust free car. Every nut and bold comes off with ease. It had some door dings and the passenger fender had a crease in it so I replaced that fender. It has the original interior which is the correct interior for the Knight Rider KITT Trans Am. The PMD seats are in good condition with a couple small holes. New gas struts on the hatch and hood. The doors open and close nicely. Pop up headlights work great, other lights work as well as the blinkers.
I painted it three years ago and have only taken it outside my shop twice to drive it around the block. Always garaged so far. The wheels are nothing special. The original factory turbine wheels were missing so I made really nice wheel covers that hold on tight and replicate the look of the KITT turbine wheels and black plastic wheel cover. This is a one piece hub cap that looks like a turbine wheel and cap. Some of the black paint on the nose has bubbled and cracked from closing the hood. I've never seen that happen before.
The tires need to be replaced. They are old rollers that I stuck on to move the car around. The 3 speed automatic transmission will not go into 3rd gear for me. I don't know if it's the linkage or the transmission itself. But I have had to top off the transmission twice and the transmission leaks. It is a high mile car with around 180,000 miles on it. It runs surprisingly strong but smokes when running.
The hard work is done that most people shy away from, body and paint. Drop in a 350 with a tranny and you are off to the races. Or you can drive it the way it is around town without a 3rd gear. I took the air compressor and other Air parts off and I have them and they come with the car if you want them. Even though it always starts right up and runs nicely, you will need to trailer it home if you don't live in my town.
I'm selling this car really cheap to get it out of my one car shop so I can start another project. There is no warrantee with this car. It is as is-where is. Keep in mind this is not a restored car. It is not perfect. If you have any questions ask me before you purchase as there are no refunds.
The buyer is 100% responsible for shipping this car home. I will make myself available to help what ever transport company you hire to pick up the car.
No deposits. Full amount to be paid within three days of purchase.
