This auction is for a one owner low mileage 2019 Honda Civic Type R 5-door hatchback finished in Sonic Grey Pearl (paint code NH877P) with the red and black interior. It’s best to view this listing on a desktop or laptop computer. A smartphone won’t give you the same details.
The Civic Type R is code named FK8 by Honda, and is powered by Honda’s K20C1 2.0 liter turbocharged and intercooled Earth Dreams Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) 4 cylinder engine with VTEC® (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for its high power output, inherent smoothness and excellent durability. It puts out 306 horsepower, which is a staggering 153 HP per liter, while its torque spec is also quite impressive at 295 lb. ft. from as low as 2,500 rpm. While many high performance small displacement engines make plenty of horsepower, they often fall down on their torque output. This engine on the other hand has a torque figure nearly identical to its horsepower number, providing greater flexibility throughout the rev range no matter what gear you are in. In addition, it is rated as an ULEV (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle). The K20C1 engine features an aluminum engine block and cylinder head for light weight and excellent heat dissipation, direct injection for excellent gas mileage, 9.8:1 compression ratio for maximum efficiency and power, distributorless coil on plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions, and drive by wire electronic throttle for precise control of drivability parameters.
The engine is connected to a close ratio 6-speed manual transmission with a helical limited-slip differential and a light-weight single mass flywheel. This transmission has a low first gear that provides excellent acceleration right out of the gate, while the high top gear allows for effortless highway cruising and excellent fuel mileage. The close ratios allow you to keep the engine in the power band longer when using the gears in between. When driven with restraint, you can expect mid to upper 30’s mpg on the highway. Rounding out the Civic Type R are suspension, steering and brakes designed to give precise control and accurate handling along with quick stopping. Start off with a rigid chassis and unit body construction for a stiff foundation and add in a MacPherson strut sport tuned suspension with stabilizer bar up front and a milti-link suspension with stabilizer bar at the rear along with adaptive dampeners with three modes for Comfort, Sport and +R. Add rack and pinion electric power steering and low profile ultra high performance tires for precise handling. For secure braking there are Brembo® 4-piston front brake calipers and massive 2-piece rotors up front with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) for maximum control in all road conditions and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) along with a Brake Assist System (BAS) applies maximum pressure to the brakes during emergency braking situations. TRAC (Traction Control) helps to maintain drive power and prevent the drive wheels from spinning when starting the vehicle or accelerating on slippery roads. Vehicle Stability Assist® (VSA) also known as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system uses the components from the ABS and TRAC systems in conjunction with the electronic throttle to regulate engine torque to enhance directional control with over/understeering of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel to create a countervailing vehicle movement which helps prevent the vehicle from skidding out of control when cornering on slippery roads. Hill Start Assist keeps the brakes engaged for a moment when you move your foot from the brake to the accelerator and prevents the car from rolling back when taking off from an incline.
It goes without saying that the Civic Type R is one of the most fun cars to drive in it’s class, and that it’s quicker, faster and handles better than many other European sports cars costing thousands more. Just take a few quotes from Car & Driver magazine to summarize this car, It’s easy to stereotype the Type R’s absurd design from afar. But this wonderfully wicked winged thing has set our hearts ablaze with its otherworldly grip, telepathic steering, sweetheart suspension, and Olympian speediness. And, The Type R's eager engine always felt alive with a responsive throttle and gobs of power. It’s nothing short of astonishing when a car sets the front-wheel-drive production-car lap record at the illustrious Nurburgring racetrack and is a livable daily driver—enter the Civic Type R. It sticks to the road like Velcro, with steering and chassis seemingly tuned by a Formula 1 engineer.
As if the performance and handling of the Civic Type R aren’t exciting enough, its outrageous in-your-face styling just puts it over the top. In addition, the underbody is excellent as well and has all it’s underbody panels installed. If a mechanic forgets to replace a panel or you run over a curb and break one off, your performance may suffer as the aerodynamics under a car are just as important as above it. If you are looking at other Civic Type Rs for sale, check underneath and make sure all the following panels are still intact as they are not cheap to replace.

The interior is in great condition as well. It has excellent upholstery, dashboard and door panels with no cracks, rips or tears. Only the driver’s armrests show some wear. The car comes with a set of factory carpeted embroidered floor mats. The car doesn‘t appear to have been smoked in. In fact, it’s not even equipped with a lighter. The cargo area looks like it was never used and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of.
Mechanically it runs and drives excellent. The engine runs strong and feels smooth both at idle, while accelerating and throughout the cruising range and it starts instantly whether hot or cold. The transmission has been rebuilt because of a 2nd gear grind. This is a common issue with many of these Civic Type Rs as Honda had a bad batch of 2nd gear syncros when these were built, and the only fix is to replace it with the new updated version. If you’re looking at other Type Rs for sale, make sure 2nd gear has no grinds. A fluid change that many sellers suggest to stop it, will only mask the problem temporarily. While the syncro set was replaced, all the bearings and seals were replaced since you might as well once it’s opened up. Only OEM Honda parts were used and it was refilled with Redline MTL for smooth shifting. And while the transmission was out, a stock Exedy clutch kit was installed. Everything feels better than new now, so the transmission shifts precisely and effortlessly throughout the gears and the clutch is silky smooth. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. It has a set of Federal 595RS-RR tires size 275/35R18 with good tread on the fronts but the rears should be replaced soon. These tires are very noisy. I thought the car had bad wheel bearings at first, but then I ran it with the front wheels off the ground and the noise was gone. They have been balanced with weights mounted on the inside of the wheel for a super clean look. The TPMS light comes on sometimes and you can turn it off by doing a calibration in the Settings menu on the home screen.
The car was fully checked out and serviced with over $5,000 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs with original Honda or other name brand parts so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required on delivery. And finally, the on-board diagnostics were scanned and show no CHECK ENGINE light (MIL) on and no codes stored or pending, and more important, all of the emissions system readiness monitors have been completed.
What that also means is the CHECK ENGINE light wasn’t reset in order to turn it off to hide an existing fault. If an emissions system has a bad part or a mod that removes or bypasses a component causes the CHECK ENGINE light to illuminate, some of the emissions readiness monitors will be incomplete and the car won’t pass an emissions inspection. Some sellers will reset the CHECK ENGINE light to make it appear like there are no issues at the time of sale, but the light will come back on shortly afterwards. It can take hundreds of miles for the readiness monitors to run to completion, so the fact that the required number of readiness monitors have been completed (scanner shows Monitors Incomplete: 0) indicates the CHECK ENGINE light hasn’t been reset and that at the time the car was scanned, it would pass an emissions inspection. This isn’t a guaranty that the car will pass inspection, as a fault can occur at any time without warning.

Sure, you can find many of these cars that look nice and seem like good deals, but if after getting it home you have to spend another $2,000 or $3,000 on service, repairs such as the 2nd gear grind, and bodywork, it’s no bargain. Remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. When comparing this car to the others, also keep in mind that this car runs great, is fully serviced, hasn’t been smoked in and is very clean. Also check if they come with both key fobs and key blades because a new pair from the dealer, with programming and cutting, is going to cost you $250 to $300. And if you lost that only fob, it’ll cost three times as much to replace the security module plus the towing charge.

If you are looking for a Civic Type R in beautiful condition at a great price, then this car is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for $200 or more and bury in their fine print. And don’t be fooled by some other auctions that are advertised as NO RESERVE and start at $100 or some other low price. Since no dealer is going to risk losing thousands of dollars if their auction doesn’t bring enough money, you can be pretty sure he has some “people” bidding on it for him. Especially those auctions that are private listings where it says “User ID kept private.” Also, because my reserve is close to the Buy It Now price, don’t think that you will get a much better deal if you just keep bidding it up instead of using B.I.N., especially if you need it delivered.
