The introduction of the Cougar finally gave Mercury its own pony car. Slotted between the Ford Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird, the Cougar would be the performance icon and eventually the icon for the Mercury name for several decades. The Cougar was available in two models (base and XR-7) and only came in one body style, a two door hardtop. Engine choices ranged from the 200 hp 289 in3 two-barrel V8 to the 335 hp 390 in3 four-barrel V8. A notable performance package called the GT was available on both the base and XR-7 Cougars. This included the 390 in3 V8, as well as a performance handling package and other performance enhancements. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present the handsome, 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 from California that you see pictured. Often called the “iconic muscle car for the classy gentleman,” this is a beautiful first year example of where muscle and performance meets luxury. This particular XR7 still possesses some of its original paperwork, including the Owner Plan Registration and some records. Finished in the correct Inverness Green, the paint is very metallic and shows a few minor imperfections, but still shows well. The body is very solid and sound, as it is a true California car. The “electric shaver” hood is longer and reminiscent of big bodied original Mustang. The chrome is in excellent shape, including the chrome grills that the hidden headlights sit behind. As an added luxury feature, the taillights are sequential. Inside, the saddle vinyl seats look great, showing no wear and only minor imperfections. The matching door panels and headliner are also in good shape, with only minor imperfections. The brown pile carpet looks great. The dashboard looks great, is original and still houses all of the original gauges. Under the hood, you’ll find the 289 cubic inch Windsor V8, capable of making up to 200 horsepower. The V8 is equipped with an Edlebrock carburetor, valve covers and air cleaner as well. Attached to the engine is a C-4 automatic transmission. The car came equipped with power steering and power brakes. Pushing the ponies to the pavement is a set of 14” GT wheels wrapped in 195/70R14 tires. This XR7 still holds onto to some of its original paperwork including the Owner Plan Registration and some records. The VIN is 7F93A551127 and the mileage currently shows 77,850. This XR7 is on a clean & clear California title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
