During the 1930s, automakers and custom coachbuilders began moving away from wood frames and toward metal structures.
This 1932 Ford AA pickup street rod has a steel body that rides on a 1977 Ford F-150 frame. Dressed in a House of Colors custom red clearcoat with a gold underlay, the paint and trim are in overall very good order. Outback is a custom oak wood bed with side rails and a Winchester ammunition box. There is only a driver’s side windshield wiper and a radiator is from a 1932 Ford truck.
This truck rolls on Goodyear radial tires, size 185/60R14, in front and Performance radials, size 275/60R15, in back. Each tire is mounted to a chrome wheel topped with moon hubcaps. The tires and wheel covers are in good shape. The truck also has drum brakes and a rear leaf spring suspension from a Ford Mustang.
Up front is a 400 CID small-block Chevrolet V-8 engine with a racing cam and a heavy-duty torque convertor plus Sanderson heads and Harley-Davidson drag baffles. The engine has two four-barrel carburetors mounted atop a high-rise intake manifold and under an air intake scoop. The motor has new fuel lines, unique custom valve covers, a new starter, a new alternator and a radiator from a 1932 Ford truck. Backing this motor is a three-speed automatic transmission and a Ford nine-inch rear differential.
Inside is a custom interior equipped with lap belts. There are two, gray cloth buckets with gray trim. A wood dash faces the driver, complete with and array of gauges from Classic Instruments. There is a matching four-spoke Grant GT wood steering wheel. The effect looks great, especially in contrast to the rest of the gray interior. The headliner is in very good order, as do the inner door panels. A musical horn and an aftermarket stereo with speakers round out the interior.
