1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440c.i. (XS29L8B218xxx) Factory Original All Numbers Matching real R/T with 60,975 miles and only 4 total owners!!!  This beautiful R/T Charger has it’s original 440c.i. HP engine and original 727 Automatic with console and bucket seats, Factory QQ1 Bright Blue Metallic paint, white trunk stripe, original blue interior (C6B), white vinyl top, factory A/C car, power steering, power drum 11” brakes, Rallye gauge cluster, hood mounted turn signals, original 8 3/4 rear end with 3.23 sure grip diff., 26” radiator, factory air condition, factory thumb wheel AM radio, wheel lip moldings, wood grain steering wheel, new Magnum 500 15” steel wheels with new Cooper Cobra Tires, dual exhaust and factory chrome tips!  The factory body numbers match (sequence order # on 1968 Mopars) on the radiator support, trunk lip and original fender tag.  I have 2 original bill of sale sheets when the Charger was purchased new on 1-13-68 at Arlington Park Dodge in Chicago, Illinois with all info and original owners names etc….  Also found on the Heater Box inside the car is the original “In Process Inspection Tag”.  The original owner sold the Charger to a gentlemen (owner #2) in the Pittsburgh, PA area around 1997 who I was lucky enough to have met him and actually did some work on it in the early 2000’s.  It was then sold to a gentlemen (owner #3) in Trafalgar, Indiana on 6-17-14.  I am the 4th owner and I purchased the Charger this April from Indiana.  Although this Charger is up for sale, If I don’t get the right price, I am happy to keep it as part of my collection!

This 1968 Charger R/T is close to being a survivor type car with having only one repaint (believed to be done in the early 90’s) on the body.  It still has many of it’s original items including it’s original numbers matching driveline, original 60,975 mile car as stated on title and knowing a lot of history on the car, original front and rear seat covers, automatic floor console, door panels (date stamped on back side), original complete dash and gauge cluster, factory tint A/C glass including front windshield, original Chrysler 26” radiator 2898047 and many other original stuff to the car.  Finding a 68 Charger R/T with this pedigree is getting extremely hard to come by.  Please keep in mind that this is not a rotisserie restored show car.  It is what I would call a nice driver car that you can still take to the shows, hit the cruises and drive and enjoy!  The Charger is a super sharp looking R/T with a killer factory correct color combo and still looks incredible!!!

I typically restore and finish around 8 or more Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 35 years.  I do everyone as if it were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale.

PLEASE CALL ME AT     412-496-1439     AND I WILL BE GLAD TO DISCUSS THE DETAILS ON THE CHARGER, THANKS, CHAD.

PAINT AND BODY

The Charger still has most of it’s original sheet metal and is in overall pretty nice shape.  It has had the typical repairs on the very lower quarters and bottom edges of the trunk drop off’s, bottom edges of the rear wheel well lips and some on the lower edge of the passenger side door.  The floorboards look very good and were cleaned, prepped and coated with POR 15 black paint.  I replaced the center of the trunk floor, seam sealed the correct factory areas, primed and repainted it with the correct QQ1 Bright Blue Metallic.  The trunk paint came out excellent and looks better than most show cars!  The rear frame rails appear to be in very good shape and were also coated with POR 15 rust preventive paint.  The undercarriage is very clean and neat with no rust.  The high-gloss paint was professionally wet sanded with 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit paper to achieve the beautiful finish. This long process alone took over 50 hours and the finish shows it!  The Charger I believe was painted in the early 90’s at some point.  The paint is very presentable and still shows very well for an older driver paint job and being over 30 years old there are a few flaws.  There are some area’s in the basecoat color that have some metal flake blotching under different shop lighting but holds pretty well when outside (shown in extra pic’s link below).  There are a couple very small paint blisters on the lower front edge of the passenger door, only a couple on the very bottoms of the quarters and 2 very small pencil eraser size near the antenna base.  The door jams, trunk jam and undersides of the hood and trunk lid are in nice shape and the paint looks very good.  There are also a few very small paint chips that were brush touched up.  I am also very picky and critical, as well as honest so please do not hesitate to call me as I will crucify my own car and do a complete walk around with you on the phone!

The sequence order number is correct on the trunk lip and the radiator support which will match the S.O. number on the fender tag in 1968.  Please call me at 412-496-1439 and I will be happy to discuss all the details!  Thanks!!!

  GLASS, CHROME, TRIM AND EXTERIOR

The glass is in very good condition and appears to be it’s original factory tint Chrysler glass (factory tint on original A/C cars).  Even the front windshield is original and only has two very small scratches near the edge on the driver side.   The wing vent windows are also original and are probably some of the nicest originals I’ve seen.  The original Chrysler side and rear glass are in very nice condition and only has a few very minor scratches on the driver side glass (see extra photos below).  All windows and locks operate as should and line up very nice!  The front and rear bumpers are very nice and possibly original to the car.  The door handles (black buttons 1968), wing vent window frames, Charger emblems, flip-up gas cap, side marker lights, tail light lenses all appear to also be originals.  The LH chrome mirror and Magnum 500 wheels are all brand new.  The 15” Cooper Cobra GT’s are also new (275-60-15 Rear and 215-70-15 Fronts).  The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine.  The original grill was appears original in excellent shape and perfect working HL vacum pods for the flip-up headlights.  The factory ordered correct white vinyl top is very nice and I believe it was changed when the car was painted.  The door weatherstripping, cat whiskers appear original and very nice shape.  The trunk weatherstripping is new.

INTERIOR

The beautiful factory blue interior (C6B) is in excellent condition with many original items.  The door panels, seat covers (front and rear), complete dash, gauge cluster, dash pad, floor console, arm rest pads and chrome bezels are all very nice and original!  The original carpet is actually still in the car but has a newer blue carpet over the top of it.  I found two small white labels under the carpet when installed at the factory.  The headliner, speaker shelf, trunk divider, glove box liner are all newer.  The instrument cluster is very nice and has a perfect original dash harness.  All factory gauges work and operate correctly with exception to the clock.  The original factory A/C heater box appears to be in very good condition.  The factory A/C comes when you press the A/C button and the compressor clutch engages but doesn’t blow cold air.  May not take much to get it working correctly and as far as I know it’s still the R12 refrigerant.  The heater core seemed ok but was not pressure tested so currently the heater hoses are blocked off at the firewall to avoid any unnecessary leaks.  The fan motor works great, and all lighting works as should including the high/low beams, flip-up headlights, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers, console lights, trunk light, glove box light and license plate light.  The factory AM radio also works but sometimes hard to pull in the stations.  The E-brake, horn, speedometer and new dimmer switch work as should.  It has a nice, restored factory original Mopar woodgrain steering wheel with a new horn center pad.

DRIVE TRAIN / SUSPENSION

The original strong running 440 numbers matching HP motor runs excellent and makes excellent power!  It appears to have freshened up at some time and has a aluminum intake with an Edelbrock 750cfm electric choke carb, headers and was installed by the original owner.  It was also upgraded to electronic ignition and a newer distributor.

The automatic 727 is also original numbers matching to the car and was completely rebuilt from front to back (in 2015 with receipt) and shifts excellent through the gears and is an absolute blast to drive!  The torque converter was also replaced when the 727 was rebuilt.  The Charger has excellent drivability and cools well even in stop and go traffic.  It also has the original factory Chrysler 26” 3-core radiator (#2898047) with a factory fan shroud and clutch fan.  This excellent drive train combo runs and drives awesome in all conditions whether highway or city driving.

The original 8 3/4 rear-end has a factory 3.23 sure grip unit with a 742 case number.  The rear end sounds good and has no leaks.  The factory 11” power brakes feel great, and it stops very well.  It has a newer master cylinder, brake line kit front to rear and also new brake lines over the rear end.

The suspension was all checked over and has a few newer items and looks very good and tight with no issues.  The Charger feels great when driving and handles very well!
