1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe
This 1956 Chevy hardtop is a stellar example, modified in 2004 as part of a build that involved a frame-off repaint using Dupont basecoat/clearcoat Moonlight Teal and India Ivory enamel. A rebuilt and fully reconditioned 350 CID V8, GM 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission, and 12 Bolt Positraction rear end with 3.43:1 gears replaced the original drive train. Inside, this classic Chevy has a custom bucket seat interior, with a center console, wraparound rear seat, and custom headliner is finished in ivory marine vinyl tuck and roll upholstery with teal beading. The dashboard gleams with polished aluminum bezels full of white faced VDO instrumentation, and the coupe features an AM/FM/CD stereo system with remote control, and Vintage air conditioning. The strong and reliable engine, rated at approximately 325 horsepower, is fitted with a 600 cfm Edelbrock carburetor, Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and HPC coated exhaust headers. Under the hood, a reflective inner panel mirrors the highly polished billet valve covers, air cleaner, and dressed engine components. A close-ratio power steering box ensures easy steering and four wheel power disk brakes can be relied upon for quick stops. The radial tires surround Boyd Coddington “New Wave” rims
According to a previous owner, the body was fully disassembled off the frame when the car was repainted during the build. The paint remains flawless with a high shine. Close inspection reveals silvery ghost flames on the top and rear quarter panels when the sunlight strikes the finish right. The show quality chrome trim sparkles like diamonds, and triple plated “smoothie” bumpers fore and aft add to the beauty of this hot rod Chevy. The radio antenna is frenched in and a third brake light in the bowtie trim on the trunk.
The front bucket seats began life in a Ford Thunderbird, recovered and color-coordinated in vinyl upholstery throughout the cabin. The leather wrapped Flaming River steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column, and other appointments include electric windshield wipers, an electric trunk release, and a hidden battery disconnect switch for security. The turquoise deep pile carpets show no wear or stains. The center console houses the stereo system, a storage compartment, and the B&M Quicksilver shifter to mix the gears.
A large Be Cool aluminum radiator with dual thermostatically controlled electric fans keeps the engine running cool, the dual exhaust system emits the glorious sound of the Heartbeat of America through side pipes in front of the rear fender wells, and a finned transmission cooler is mounted on the passenger side frame rail. This Bel Air hardtop rides on coilover shocks with tubular A-arms, 2 inch dropped spindles, and an anti-sway bar up front; triangulated 4 link adjustable coilover suspension rear. The rust free underside of the car is fully painted to complement the topside
This roadworthy Bel Air has been driven just 18,000 miles since completed 20 years ago. Only 6000 of those miles were added by the Las Vegas seller, who purchased the vehicle 12 years ago in Southern California. It is eye candy, it runs very well with no electrical or mechanical issues, and it has always been garaged, well maintained and regularly serviced under his ownership. The tires have nearly full tread, though they should probably be replaced due to age, not wear. Inquiries are invited and inspection by prospective buyers is encouraged. This is a private sale by owner, so only cash or bank to bank wire transfer of funds will be accepted. No trade offers will be considered and no financing is offered.
