NO RESERVE
1979 Mg Midget completely stock in very good condition for a 45 year old car. - no smoke out exhaust. 102,500 miles on it. Previous owner indicated engine rebuilt at 94,000. I bought from him after he had a hip replacement and could not drive it anymore. Other things I have done to it: reupholstered seats, new carpet, brakes - new master cylinder & rear brake drums, wheel cylinders and brake shoes (front disks did not need it), new emergency brake cable. Has boot for top when down, tonneau cockpit cover and car cover. Original owners manual in the glove box. Three repair manuals and box of spare parts included. Full size spare with bottle jack (original jack missing). Two keys come with car. I am getting to old to easily get in/out of it.
Other items to note about this vehicle.
1. New back brake shoes now seated after some miles put on car so probably s/b adjusted one more time.
2. On hot days (high eighties) after drive has vapor lock (common 1500 issue) – the fix is to change to electronic fuel pump. Not an issue for me – sit to cool off for 15 minutes and starts normally.
3. RPM meter has oxidation on terminals that needs cleaned up – not working when you start the car but tap on meter glass couple of times and it works normally.
4. Turn signal switch on steering column broke and previous owner installed new flasher switches for left and right (but they are not self canceling). Located between seats.
5. Brake light switch went bad and previous owner installed a manual brake light switch as a temporary fix. Located between seats. I have gotten used to it so have not replaced brake light switch (located inside the petal box and kind of a pain to get at).
6. After parking car after drive when engine fluids hot there is a slight drip ( 1/2 inch diameter) – has done this ever since I bought and has not gotten worse.
7. Note about the temperature gauge – when engine is fully warmed up the needle moves only about 1/4 inch. This is normal for this particular gauge/car. I have never had an overheating problem in the time I have owned it.
8. I installed a battery disconnect switch on the battery as battery was dead once when I went to start car. I may have left manual brake or turn signal switch in on position as they are wired direct to battery.
Normally disconnect battery using switch when going to park for some time to ensure this does not happen.
9. Note the fog lights are wired into headlight switch (come on when headlights turned on). Probably would be better to have a separate switch for the fog lights.
10. The window tracks need lubricated as they are sticky when rolled up/down. Need to hold/help the windows along when cranking until this is done.
11. Some windshield scratches/chip (no cracks)
12. Factory hood release replaced by previous owner. Cable with grab handle rests on front fender – just pull forward and hood releases (works good). Then release the factory secondary safety catch on right side and open hood.
