Auto Source Group is pleased to offer this 1989 Mercedes-Benz 190E Evolution I finished in Blue Black Metallic (199) over Anthracite Black Leather (251).

Mercedes-Benz went head-to-head with BMW when it launched the compact 190 (W201) Series in December 1982. Attributing its origins to the new U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards. Mercedes contracted Italian/German automotive designer Bruno Sacco to design a smaller, more efficient model that would help boost its current offerings at the time.

Following the successful homologation of the 190E 2.5-16 Cosworth, Group A regulations authorized further development of “Evolution” variants of a homologated car to be produced at larger scale. Consequently, the Evolution I was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1989.

Built as a limited-production model of 502 cars when Mercedes needed to meet the homologation requirements of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) touring car race series.

The Evolution I featured stiffer springs and shock absorbers, electrically adjustable ride height, bigger brake discs, 16-inch Evo Gullideckel alloy wheels, electric sunroof, rear wing, heated front seats, a wider front and rear track, anti-roll bars with anti-dive and anti-squat geometry, a quick steering rack, an uprated 'M102 991' engine, and a sports exhaust system. Additional factory enhancements include shorter rear axle ratio, distinctive aero kit, wheel arch extensions and deeper side skirts.

The best part is under the hood, equipped with 16-valve twin-cam cylinder heads developed in Britain by Cosworth Engineering and paired to a 5 speed Dog Leg manual transmission. Cosworth based the design of its immensely successful DFV Formula 1 engine. Producing 201 bhp with a satisfying top speed of 140 mph.

This European specification W201 190E Evolution I spent time in Japan and Australia with its first and second owner before embarking on its journey to the United States. Presented today with low miles and in original condition throughout.
