This is a low mileage mostly original car. I have a certification from the selling dealer and from the State of NM that the mileage at the time of sale to me was 47,906 miles, it has 51,682 on it now. I drive it everyday and have never had a problem. I believe the car was built as a 60's era custom as it has an etched windshield and rear side windows which was common back then, it also had Lakes pipes which I removed, presently I would called it a mild retro ie, stock looking but with many modern upgrades.
This Tbird was part of a car collection in Florida, it sat for years in storage then 3 or 4 years ago it was caught in a hurricane that flooded the storage area, the car had water up to the rocker panels but no water entered the car itself. It, along with the other cars from the collection were placed outside in an open lot, after almost 3 years the cars were released for sale, The car suffered from the outside storage in that the rockers had rusted. All the cars were offered for sale as "Salvage" although no mechanical damage took place. I bought it and took it to my body shop where the rockers were repaired and the original metal flake Burgundy paint was re-applied. Unfortunately the tire place I bought the new tires from positioned the lift incorrectly and caused minor damage to the right front rocker panel, barely noticeable but there. Its not a "Show" paint job but looks very good.
The prior owner had just installed a custom A/C unit before the flooding which works fine along with a Newport electric windshield wiper motor. Because the car sat out in the open and had not been run for the years it was in storage and while outside I decided to upgrade and replace anything that may go wrong.
I installed many new parts. I replaced "bus driver" steering wheel with a retro 1957 Thunderbird wheel, the horn has a button on the floor. I installed an NOS distributor with new cap, rotor, spark plugs and spark plug wires, a dual circuit brake system with new power booster, 4 brand new ww tires new brakes all around including all 4 drums, linings, brake cylinders, and hoses, a new battery, a transmission cooler, new Edelbrock 4 bbl carb, new Power Master alternator, new aluminum radiator, new rear air shocks, all new hoses, rebuilt heater box with new core and hoses, new rotary electric fuel pump, steering column mounted accessory voltage meter and tachometer. the interior is in near new condition and is black/grey diamond tuck with matching headliner and door panels all in very good condition, the dash pad has no cracks . The original heater control valve was modified to accommodate the new A/C set up. The heater still works off of the OEM panel but the valve is on the firewall. The OEM A/C control panel was replaced with a very nice non-A/C controller so everything would work OK. I also installed brand new custom polished aluminum valve covers. The wire caps in the picture were removed, they kept falling off. Comes with the OEM hup caps, my camera broke so I couldnt take new pics
The OEM overflow tank was removed, it comes with the car along with the OEM air cleaner, Also included are many spare and extras including a complete spare instrument panel with the gauges and a spare glove box door.
The steering column was removed and the lower shift lever and upper shift detent were replaced. It goes into "Park" now and stays there.
Because the car sat so long I took it to a transmission shop where they flushed the transmission, inspected the transmission and set the bands and shift points to factory settings. The transmission shifts solidly, no leaks.
The engine runs strong, lots of power, no smoking, leaks, knocks etc., I also installed new "Turbo" mufflers, a low mellow sound, not loud.
Everything except the radio works, including the clock. The car starts runs and drive very well, it "floats" and is very comfortable and roomy. I will include an untested radio spare if you want it.
Except for the damaged rockers the car is rust free, I can store the car for you until you pick it up or arrange shipping.
