Here is one of the Classic American Limousine Sedans of the 1940’s in all original, very nice condition. This one has the improved 1949 Dash design and Overhead V-8 Motor.
This appears to be an unmolested original. It was in a dry garage since the 1970’s. I purchased this from the son of the second owner. The first owner was a businessman in Philadelphia; his Monogram, ‘CLM’ is on right rear door.
This was the ‘IMPERIAL SEDAN, Top of line for Cadillac in 1949. I have enjoyed owning this automotive masterpiece with its Solid Walnut and Chrome interior appointments, Cool thick glass partition window, Jump Seats that appear suddenly from divider wall, and a Sexy Chauffeurs compartment done in Black Leather. Best of all: This vehicle has the original factory cloth interior in the rear and it appears in barely used condition…
CONDITION:
The body, including fenders, floors, etc is quite dry and solid. There is rust through on spare wheel well in trunk. (See pic.).
There is a dent on Left front fender.
There are several shallow dents on roof near end. There is no evidence of body or frame repair. I believe paint is factory and is in Fair condition There are tape adhesive marks on paint - mostly on passenger side. (See pics).
Chrome has fine pitting in areas.
Tires hold air. Two tubes were replaced this year.
White wall material has some cracks.
Car rolls, steers. I haven’t tried parking brake.
This is a Complete Specimen. All parts appear to be original. The Rear Fender Skirts apply solidly. The left rear Skirt had lots of surface rust so I painted this. I have not purchased any parts except two new of the small red squarish rear light ‘lens’ pieces which were a bit aged and hood springs. The front bench seat has a temporary leatherette cover as the original worn and cracked. I have pics.
There are no signs of rodent infestation. There are no foul odors.
The motor is correct for car and I believe original to car. It was Cadillacs first overhead valve V-8, and it created a sensation in Detroit that year. I have not tried to start motor though it turns readily by hand. The prior owner told me it may need work.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
The hydraulic windows are not functioning: they are fixed in an up position. The four Vent Windows work.
The glass overall is ‘Very Good’. The front vent windows do have some white discoloration on one edge but are mostly clear. I see no cracks anywhere. The divider glass is quite good.
There are a few minor dents: Left front fender, Back part of roof.
There is a .75” x 1.5” hole in headliner in back. The hubcaps are in Fair condition with some dings and fine pitting. I had surface rust removed.
