The car was given to me by my mother in-law, premised on the condition that I restore it to its original condition prior to her passing. This premised was satisfied and she passed away at the age of ninety-five.

The vehicle was purchased new by my in-laws and driven for approximately 4 years. It was then stored in a heated warehouse for 51 years.

My restoration of the vehicle consisted of the following:

1.   Mechanical – with approximately 68,000 miles the car was in excellent condition. It is a number matching vehicle. The engine and transmission have never been out of the car.

a.    All new suspension shocks, springs, etc.

b.    Added dual exhaust.

c.    For driving safety, front disc-brakes were added.

2.   Body – all rusted areas of the car were repaired on a “metal on metal basis”. No plastic fillers were used. The car was resprayed in its original color.

3.   Interior – a new factory interior was installed including carpet and steering wheel.

4.   Convertible top – a new convertible top was installed. The rear window is glass.

5.   Cosmetics – custom 17” alloy wheels were added along with new tires.

6.   Net result – It is a drivable and upgraded piece of history. As you can see from the photos it is very attractive. I entered it in one car show. It was not best in show, but I was pleased with the commentary received by the attendees.

The big question is “value”. It is presently insured with Haggerty on an agreed value policy of $ 25,000. Haggerty is an expert in valuation and will not insure any vehicle in excess of its reasonable value.

My investment in the vehicle is $ 16,934, excluding the value of the car when transferred to me.
